Rolling back AMD drivers

I've got a 3-monitor set up as shown in my sig. The central monitor is off the DisplayPort, and the two Acer monitors are from the DVI_D ports via Startech adapters.

Everything was working fine, but one of the Acer monitors is now showing "Input Not Supported" - this may have coincided with the update to Crimson (but I'm not sure). A bit bizarrely, if I unplug and then reconnect the monitor at the adapter the display appears, but it is shown as a 'Lontium' which I think is the chip in the adapter.

I've had similar issues before, but I want to roll back to a previous driver version to check if this was the cause.

So:
  1. How do I install a previous driver version? I've not done this before so I need an idiot's guide...
  2. Is there a driver version that anyone can recommend?
  3. Where can I download the driver versions from?

Cheers.

1. Uninstall the current driver version and reboot, install the older software, reboot.

If you experience any issue after performing the above, uninstall the driver and run either the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility or DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), reboot, and re-install the older software again.

2. The pre-crimson 15.11.1 drivers should be good, I experienced no issues with them at least, considering going back to them myself to resolve sporadic rendering issues with Crimson.

Some have reported that issues they've been having didn't occur in versions as far back as 15.6, but did thereafter. Your mileage may vary depending on your system configuration.

3. Any previous drivers you have installed should be present in extracted form under C:\AMD.

If this is not the case the AMD website includes a link to previous drivers in the right hand column when visiting the current driver page for your particular OS.

Some websites like Guru3D maintain a much larger repository of previous drivers to download from.

First off download DDU, Then download the drivers you want, you can google that one.

Run DDU and let it restart in safe mode > uninstall all AMD drivers and let it reboot once again.
Install required CCC.

Edit: Or what p5ychonaut said above :)

An idiots question, but what do I do to uninstall the current driver version?

Can do it from device manager - find your display adaptor, right click to go into properties then click the driver tab. Can't be bothered turning on my win 10 laptop so that's from win 7, but I'd imagine it's similar on whatever OS you're using.

Excellent advice, and a great demonstration of why this Overclockers forum is so useful.

To combine the above:

1 - First off download DDU
2 - Run DDU and let it restart in safe mode > uninstall all AMD drivers and let it reboot once again
3 - The pre-crimson 15.11.1 drivers should be good
4 - Any previous drivers you have installed should be present in extracted form under C:\AMD
5 - I went to the folder "C:\AMD\AMD-Catalyst-15.7.1-Win10-64bit" and double clicked the 'setup.exe' file in there. It will vary depending on your system.
6 - I now have an Eyefinity setup working again.

Good to know you're up and running again. :)

While its nice to see AMD moving in a new direction with Crimson, the new software seems to be far more glitchy than the previous Catalyst drivers. I can think of 3 issues most people are reporting:

-Core clocks "bouncing" causing unstable framerates, power saving appears to conflict with frame caps or double buffered vsync.

-Rendering glitches - these may manifest as UI elements flickering or strange blocky artefacts, I've witnessed minor artefacting across a number of games myself.

-Automatic profiles not taking effect - While it is nice to see all my games appear in Radeon Settings, no settings applied in the automatically generated profiles will have any effect on the games. The profile has to be added manually. At a guess I'd say it's because I don't tend to install games on C:.

Hopefully it is just teething trouble and they will sort out all the niggles soon, so we don't have to keep going back to Catalyst. Also make sure you help out their driver team by reporting any problems here:

Good call re. reporting the problems. I will, but the fact I needed to roll back drivers is a bit worrying

lol then you've not spent any time in Nvidia's driver sub; both side need to do it.

I almost had to do it with first release of crimsons as Fo4 crashing came back from 15.10s to gone in 15.11s.....now seems far more stable with 15.12s. There are a couple issues still with tiny graphic corruption in a couple games.

I do like where Crimson's are going; the UI needed an overhaul since forever :)

True, I suppose the grass is always greener somewhere else (no pun intended). I do like the new interface on crimson but I'll wait for it to become more stable...
