Hi guys,

Is it possible to rollout software to clients on a network without an .msi file?

What if I only have an .exe file etc. Is there any way of converting?

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply mate; basically I've just setup a simple 2003 server with 20 xp clients to teach dtp. I've been given a load of instructional cd's that I'd like to share with students and I've scoured the discs and I only have .exe's to work with... I don't really want to start having to go round every machine and install them myself :(

You can use winrar to create a sfx archieve and then create a batch or vb script or something along the sort to push it down or you can just use exe to msi converters, http://www.qwertylab.com/FreeTools.aspx.

Cool. The convertor would probably be easiest ;)

Do you know how I'd go about converting a software install that had other files as well as the .exe?

Some titles will work fine if you install them on the server, or even better install them on a workstation and copy the files from program files on the server. You can then share these files and just create a shortcut to them on each PC.

BUT, do you realise if they're accessible from 20 machines you will probably need 20 licences, unless you specified this when you bought the software you will only have one.
