Rome 2 TW Question

Slight necro.

Is the game supposed to be harder when playing as Rome?

Had no bother winning as Egypt then Macedon and never had political issues, with Rome the senate constantly hate me meaning my morale in battle, research and public order are all low so I've got armies tied down in regions just to control public order through the negative modifiers.

Is there any way to improve it? I can't work out any way I can increase influence and get more senators. I just seem to lose them for no reason.

Really frustrating and seems broken (though I probably just don't understand :p)

Any help would be appreciated!

I admit I don't fully understand the politics system and tend to ignore it. The only thing I keep an eye on is the 'Civil War' meter on that menu. If a civil war happens prepare to get VERY angry as you basically lose a lot of cities and armies to a new faction that splits from you called "Roman Royalists" or something like that. You then have to fight them and take it all back. This can happen when playing as other civs.

Last time this happened to me as Rome the faction split took all my food producing regions and my best army. Taking it back was VERY tough as my other armies were far away and by the time they got back they were nearly all dead due to no food :(.

I think the way to balance it is make sure your faction is not dominating power, by doing things like bribing other members, creating marriages to balance the lower powered political faction up a bit etc.

I tried the marriage thing but it neither reduced their influence or boosted mine, I'm not so much bothered about civil war, just annoyed as its locking down armies and stopping my expansion.

Never had anything remotely similar with Egypt or Macedon.
