Rome: how long?

Also - I did a skip the queue thing at the Vatican but found it stupidly busy and the lack of respect by other tourists in the sisteen (sp?) chapel was deeply annoying. There is an opportunity to do a very early tour in the morning for which you get the chapel pretty much to yourselfs, purportedly. Bit of a toss up between getting up that early and minimal nuisance, I think.

I’d deffo say a guided tour of the Coluseum is worth it particularly if you go on the tour which goes up the third tier and the basement areas - you have to book these in advance as they are limited access.

Vatican guided tour is comparably a bit ho-hum because there is a lot of art etc that you might find interesting but whizz right past as part of the tour.

In other words, you might be better off doing the Vatican by yourself, which I would do next time if I ever go again - quite nice to do that at your own pace, whilst for Ancient Rome they will put context on what you’re seeing so it’s pretty hard not to enjoy it.
