Rome

Oh sorry. I didnt pay to keep my site running this year, as photography has, sadly, taken a bit of a back seat lately :(
No worries, thanks for replying. Already added a number of recommendations from this thread for a possible long weekend with the wife :).

We are going for a day in April when we dock at Civitavecchia on our cruise. We will be docking and getting the train from the station into rome. I would like to see the The colosseum and a couple of other places but it will be a concise visit for the day.

Probably going to do The Colosseum, The Pantheon and Sistine Chapel.

The metro is great for getting around. Your train will likely go into Termini and then you can get the B line to Colosseo. That gives you access to the Coliseum and the Roman Forum.

If you want to go inside them, be sure to buy a ticket online. Do not join the fools in the queues.

That was the plan, Train goes to Termini then B line to go to Colosseum, then if its to far for my mum to walk get a taxi from there to the Pantheon and then to the Sistine Chapel. I think you can get guided tours at the first 2 for about £18 online but the Sistine Chapel seems to be a fair bit more.

Might actually do a slightly different order so we end at Colosseum so then just get the B line to Termini then back to Civitavecchia, nice little round trip.

You can do a great little loop on the Pantheon area. Pantheon (sadly not free anymore) then the Spanish steps. After that, Piazza de Spagna. Don't forget Trevi fountain. Finish it off with a trip to Venchi on Via del Corso for some gelato!

I would avoid a tour of the Sistine Chapel as you can go at your own pace. The tour guides are usually quite speedy and you won't get the time you need to have a proper look at things if that's up your street. They do a good info dump though.

My mate used to run a tourism business in Rome so I have pretty much done it all! :D

Thanks for that. My sister is interested in going to The Vatican. I see its a little further out, is there a line or metro that goes near it? Might look at going there first, then Sistine, Pantheon working back to the Colosseum. My mum is getting old and she has just had a knee replacement so dont want to cause her any issues with too much walking.
