I have been working in the motorcycle industry for 7 years now but have never ever had the spare cash to get a license and kit,

Basically you pay £500 upfront,

They get you your full bike licensce, plus up to £1400 worth of kit and you take out finance on any of the BMW range

I think im going to take up this great idea by BMW

http://www.bmwmotorradfinancialservices.co.uk/new-rider-offer

The F800R is still a little pricey for me but BMW have released the price on the new G 310 R and its £4200 and you can use this new rider offer on any BMW so the 310 R seems like a very cheap way to get into biking, plus maybe a decent starter bike.

With the F800R being over £7k and this offer being £199 a month im hoping the 310 R beings into the £99 a month sort of range which is affordable for me. Plus hopeful i get some industry discount :D

Would have thought you would be better off getting a bank loan and buying the bike.

Why would you want to rent a bike? Only 5k miles a year and you'll get charged even more if it isn't immaculate when you return it after two years.

Drop it and it's going to be very expensive indeed, all without owning it.

Seems like an OTT way to get your license, you don't need £1400 worth of bmw kit, that works out at £300 on all the kit separately, complete waste of money. I know it's included in the price if you take the finance deal but still overkill.

£200 a month to then hand it back at the end of the agreement, no more than 10000 miles or else you'll be charged 5p for every additional mile, not including any damage etc.

You can do your full DAS course in 4 days at the cost of roughly £700 and then buy your own bike and gear.

It doesn't say in the T&C but after the 2 years when you hand the bike back, do they take the gear back too?

Bank loan.. 5k, 36 months = £160 per month.

Free bike with the last payment:D

That's not a cheap way into biking stoke1863.

All fair points. I also drive a car and the bike will only be a toy so really doubt I'd go over 5k.

When I look at the used market for bikes they never seem that cheap vs new models

What banks have the best rates nowerdays?

How is the MT07? What sort of money should I be spending on kit ?

I'm in the Suzuki affiliate scheme so can get £1200 off the new SV650. Worth it?

Jacket - £200
Trousers - £100
Gloves - £30- £70
Helmet - £150+ cheaper helmets are available but some brands offer deals on helmets now with a good saving, worth paying the extra
Boots - £100 depending on brand

You can spend more or less on any of those, go for what fits you best but also what you like.

MT-07 would be a good first bike, popular, easy to ride, light and quick.

What's your rough budget figure?

I need to search around for a loan to check . I can just afford to get enough money to do my DAS and the kit and bike would need to be a bank loan
Also worth noting I work in the industry and talk to dealerships all the time so I'm friendly with a lot of them. I'd imagine I'll get some perks

Not sure on the best rates ATM, have a look around the bank sites, I got that quote off the Barclays site. (I did the same with a 10k loan to get my Busa)

One thing is for sure they'll all be better than hiring or buying new on finance.

The newer guy's will know better than I on the price of new kit, I've had my gear for years :p

As for the bike being a toy, you're correct there so don't think you won't do the miles on her lol.

Trust me when I say you're going to start going the long way everywhere lol, you'll also pop out for a quick ride and do a whole tank of juice :D

Pick out a few bikes that you like and go sit on them ect before you make your mind up.

How about the new SV650?

Suppose to be a great starter bike, i can it with £1200 off RRP (about 4.5k)

pretty sure if i bought it through one of my Suzuki dealers they would chuck in some kit or heavily discounted

Both the SV and MT are good bikes, I think we have owners of both on here:cool:

As said go and have a sit on them to see what fits best for you, adopt the same where your crash helmet is concerned IE the best fitting one will be best for you:)

The new SV is not an SV, its a re-branded Gladius which wasn't very successful for various reasons which you can easily read about on Google. But, if I had to choose between the two, I would probably go for the MT-07, even though I myself own a SV650 2nd gen. :)

Looking at reviews for the new SV it's done quite well. With the Suzuki scheme I'm in I can get a new SV cheaper than a used MT07.

Yep the new SV seems to be getting good feedback from reviewers and owners, if you like the looks then it's a solid choice.

I'm probably being a bit biased due to the fact it's a rebranded Gladys successor instead of the SV...

I don't see that as a problem. Suzuki fixed the dubious styling of the SVF650 and it still has the same great engine. It's a bit of a bargain I reckon.

Whatever the price difference works out at between the SV and MT-07, you're going to have at least that value more fun on the MT.

Why do you say that? Aside from styling preferences the only real advantage the MT-07 has over the Suzuki is it weighs a bit less.

If you want a bargain, then there are some good deals around on 2016 models of SV650S (the previous generation of SV). e.g. £3895 with 0% finance. Some 125's cost more than that.

If for example i purchased a new SV650 for around 4.5k or a used MT07 around the same time, how much value do you think this will lose in 2 years?

Only reason i ask is, with the BMW offer on the G 310 R instead of the F800R it should be around £99 a month

£99 x 24 = 2376 + 500 deposit = 2876
and that includes me getting kit and passing a test

Yes after 2 years im handing it back but will the above models lose as much money as this?

Anyway i prefer the styling of the MT-07 but the SV650 is fantastic value with the deal i can get on the Suzuki scheme. Hard choice

I will probably email a few contacts to see if i can get some kit thrown in for free.

There's no way you'll lose 3k on a new SV in 2 years.

Even older models are still going for 2-2.5k 2nd hand.
