Room Temperature

As title really, do any of you find this seriously affects PC temperature?

I live in a room which seems to get hot and cold like a yo-yo. One minute you're shivering, next you're sweating.

Either way, it really affects the PC too. Temperatures range from 35-40C idle (45-50C load) when it's cold to 65-70C idle (75-80C load) when it's hot.

Obviously this is causing me some pretty serious stability problems.

Yeah it does make a lot of difference.

In December I got all my ski gear on and left my window open for a whole day and evening, got my temps down to about 15 degrees C.

yep any air been sucked in will be at the temp of the room
hot room = hot air etc

You need to keep your room well ventilated too, otherwise the hot air that is expelled from your case will eventually increase the ambient room temp too.

my room gets to 26c few times a week and mostly its 23c +

Well this is bad. REALLY bad.

Was getting those horrific temps so I reseated the cooler. Now it won't post. I've checked all the connectons in the case three times, but still nothing.

Ain't got no other components to try either, as the other computers in the house are DDR1 based, AMD systems with AGP graphics.

Yup. Everything spins up but that's it.

Any beeps or anything from the machine? Have you tried removing all the parts apart from the essentials and then booting, or removing everything except the essentials and also maybe the CPU to see if you get a beep saying the CPU is not picked up etc? Also how's the temperatures in your room at the moment? If it's extremely hot in your room, you might want to take the PC out and move into another room that is a lot cooler to test the machine. My PC for instance turns on, and then the fan kicks in on the CPU about 5 seconds after switching on, maybe yours does similar and the CPU is overheating from the word go due to the room temp?

Gonna try a rebuild out of the case now, starting with the essentials and building up.

Hope it's nothing serious.

Exact same thing happened to me today, I had to reseat the heatsink 3 times before it would post, then once i got into windows the computer just froze. I've just done a full rebuild and everything seems fine again. Im thinking i might have knocked something or there was a build-up of static in the case.

Update!

Motherboard has 4 RAM slots. It will only post when there is RAM in slots 3+4. It will post with two sticks but only when they are in slots 3+4.

When I put anything in either slot 1 or slot 2, it will fail to POST.

Back goes the motherboard. :mad:

Update - after looking on the web it seems there is an issue with certain RAM, something to do with the voltage supplied to the RAM slots.

Tried a BIOS flash which claimed to correct this issue, and the BIOS also claimed it fixed some kind of temperature issue (so maybe there was no heat issue after all). :rolleyes:

The BIOS killed the board totally.

So it's packaged up and ready to go back for an RMA tomorrow.
