Even if he doesn't play the first matches I think it'll be played coyly by the England staff. I reckon he'll be on the bench even if he's not fully fit to give the opposition something to think about.

did anyone really believe he wasnt going to make it...

great news... but i hope he doesnt get rushed into anything... i really hope nothing goes wrong while he's playing..

if he got injured while playing a game it would probably deflate the whole team like in euro2004

After two hours inside with doctors, the 20-year-old left at 1947 BST.

Rooney's club, Manchester United, announced on their website at 1945 BST that a "decisive" scan result "will be announced this evening".

A plane is waiting at Manchester Airport for Rooney - and it did have a 2000 BST slot to take off. The BBC has been told that plane is now due to take off at 2015 - but it is still unclear whether the striker will be on board.

If that plane - due to land at Karlsruhe near Baden-Baden at about 2145 - has the England star on board, it can be assumed he will play at the World Cup, which begins on Friday, with England's opening match on Saturday.
