I've been playing a lot of badminton recently, about 15 hours a week, and have what i'm pretty sure is a rotator cuff tendon injury. I'm not looking for medical advice about it; i will see my GP for that but just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems with their shoulder, what you did and how long it took to recover.

Not had any personal experience but depending on how bad you've damaged it then it can take a while. Its an area thats used for most movements so it takes longer to heal than something you can keep still.

Tank has recently done his in(i think)abit so im sure he can offer advice.

Have had rotator cuff issues in my right shoulder all my life, the only thing that helps it is regular core strength training to keep it nice and tight.

Depends on how severe it is. I've known plenty of people who rest it and it's ok, less that have needed physio and a coupe who needed steroid shots to help.

...as previously mentioned failed on my last rep benchpressing (heavy) and got stuck with the barbell on my shoulders with nobody to take it away from me etc for just under a minute :( 5 weeks now and there has been some improvement-probably still another 5 weeks or more worth of pain left in the shoulder. Deltoid, Lat and tricep was also injured.

Thanks for the replies and for sharing your own experiences. As for my own injury, it's not too severe at the moment and i will be resting it as much as possible and using ice packs. I can't rest it completely as i coach 3 times a week but i'll be making slight changes to the sessions so that i don't have to play too much overhead as that is when i'm not doing it any good. The plan, as Dano suggests, is to strengthen it in the gym once it has recovered enough to do so.

As dotdot mentions, it is one of the most common badminton injuries. A lot of people play through the pain for months, even years and end up with tears which then need a fair bit of treatment but those that rest it early enough seem to recover well.

And ouch ethan; that sounds painful. That minute must have felt like a lifetime!
