Reasonable list I would say - https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/best-comedy-shows-of-all-time/

Tbh, I only looked through the top 100 so far. A few on there I've not seen and might give a go.

'Only Fools' should be higher and 'Kimmy Schmidt' shouldn't be that high mind...

Bit of a sleeper if you can find it anywhere 'News Radio'. I used to love that show. (Let me know if you find it ;) )

it's just a list of comedies really. Can't see why one is better than the other in order to gain a rating in the "Best 200 Comedies of all time" fallacy.

To me it just felt extremely repetitive. But yes, it does seem fairly polarising (some housemates who used to watch it - which is the reason I saw it - used to love it).

You’re right, it’s awful.

Being spoon fed jokes you saw coming 20 minutes ago by a bunch of wooden characters standing around waiting for their turn to say their lines, while simultaneously being deafened by canned laughter is not my idea of comedy.

Lots of rubbish on the list, but lots of good shows as well. The ordering is all over the place, but each to their own.

Went to the 50-1 page... saw Big Bang Theory at #50. Lol, it's really not that good.

Haven't seen the vast majority of the shows so can't really pass judgement, tbh.

I know a few(lot?) of people really dislike it. Personally I do think it's one of the better comedies about recently.

TBH I gave up on it around season 4. it used to be really good, so much so I actually took to downloading it prior to air in the UK. Like most things they run out of steam when they get the two characters that have fancied each other for ages together and then it seems to lose it's spark.

Never really seen the hilarity about Seinfeld. I often see it topping comedy show lists but Ive watched several episodes to try and get into it and just not found it all that funny at all.

Also not sure about The Simpsons being at number 3, that show has been a dead man walking for years and years now imo. Always found South Park to be funnier, though that doesnt place highly on this list. (Compared to Simpsons)

Good to see Parks and Rec high on the list though, that show was brilliant.

Scrubs should have been higher than #30 imo.

**** me. Allo allo is number 13 best comedy of all time :D

Not being a fan of broad comedy, and this being a list based on broad appeal, I would expect to disagree quite a lot with it, but ******* allo allo?!!

It's true that it hasn't been funny for about 20 years

But seasons 2-8 are absolute comedy gold.

I agree with you there the early seasons were great, but that only serves to highlight my quibble with it being 3rd, can a show which has only been funny for 33% of the time its been on tv, really be 3rd in a list of best comedies.

Didn't Scrubs kind of go off the boil though? Well, I don't think I even watched the last few seasons.

The final season of Scrubs (where essentially the entire cast changed) was dire, but the 8 seasons prior to that were all superb. It only really had 1 poor season, that final one.

6 or 7 seasons of great stuff should qualify, IMO. Doesn't matter how bad it gets later.

The crap Rocky sequels (see also Terminator, Matrix, even Godfather (III) to some extent ) don't mean the first isn't still a brilliant movie.

The flip side of that analogy though would be something like, if a formula one driver drives 200 races in his career and does superbly for 30 races but average for the other 170 races, could you still consider him to be the 3rd greatest formula one driver of all time?

comedy like music is very personal. a lot of stuff i see mentioned i wouldnt even class as being comedy :p .

eg many love fools n horses. i find it bland cockney stuff. predictable slapstick.

you only have to look at the list to see its a american biased list. :p seinfield ! LOL

With quite a few british shows making the list, it would have been good to see The New Statesman. A favourite of mine, and Rik Mayall knocking it out of the park.

Are you being served is easily trumped by Hi Di Hi. While the old 70's and 80's shows might not appeal to a new generation, some of that stuff never grows old.

Open All Hours should be on there. But if it's US-centric, not surprising it's missing.

And Father Ted should be significantly higher.

I was surprised and pleased to see Coupling - although it turned rubbish when Jeff was replaced.
