Roundaboot question

Saw thread Title, came in expecting Canadian shenanigans, left disappointed :(

I know this roundabout well, been caught out by people being in the wrong lane (the one on the right) lots of times.

But the road markings show both lanes for the dual carriageway so you're obviously going to need the right hand land for a later exit. I'll shut up now.

What road markings? I moved the camera back too, there are no road markings other than broken lines for two lanes. The sign doesn't state anything about lane choice.

So it's quite simple... just like it's spelled out in plain English in the highway code... unless otherwise marked by sign and/or road markings (which this does not have)... then the left lane is for 1st and 2nd exit, with right lane for further exits.

I know you'll get numpties at that roundabout who can't drive, using the right lane to take the second exit ;)

Lmao, I misread the that as pertaining to Morlaix Avenue, not the Tesco road, sorry. Long day!

I was looking at the wrong road, disregard everything I said :p

The highway code says "left lane for first exit, right lane for last exit, appropriate lane for other exits". At least it did when I last read it.

Not forgetting the now infamous 3 week bus lane :)

I've read the "sustainable transport plan for Truro", and basically expect more of this.

They realise that the existing roads won't cope with the new 7,000 houses they're building, and the answer they've decided upon is to get people out of their cars.

So "solutions" such as building houses without garages, to "encourage" people to not have cars at all. Turning dual carriageways into single carriageway + buslane. Campaigns to encourage commuting by bicycle. More park+rides everywhere.

It's the kind of nonsense that the Guardian is always promoting. It's like our planning people are detached from reality, and think a utopian future without cars is possible today. Which is certainly isn't, not in Cornwall. But hey ho.

Go on... read it again... I dares ya :p

Here you go:

Section 186
This section of the Highway Code explains the signals and positions required to exit a roundabout safely. Follow the rules and you will find maneuvering roundabouts to be much less stressful.

When taking the first exit (unless signs and markings indicate otherwise):
Signal left and approach the exit in the left hand lane
Keep to the left on the roundabout and signal left to leave

When taking an exit to the right or going full circle (unless signs or markings indicate otherwise):
Signal right and approach the exit in the right hand lane
Keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to reach your exit
Signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you intend to take

When taking any intermediate exit (unless signs or markings indicate otherwise):
Select the appropriate lane on approach to the roundabout
Stay in the lane until you need to alter your lane to exit
Signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want to take

The correct one. (left lane)

I thought (hoped) that would be the obvious choice?

Actually if you look closer at the road markings, it's not obvious at all.

In the direction of the dual carriageway, two lanes are marked around the roundabout.

If you are cutting across the dual carriageway, only one lane is marked, and in fact hatching is used to narrow the available space.

Since traffic in the right lane approaching the roundabout is guaranteed to be using that (single) lane, a valid assumption is that the left lane can only be used to turn left.

Please look carefully at where there are two lanes on the roundabout, and where there is only one lane (marked).
