roundabouts

Say for example you are entering the roundabout from exit 0, exit 1 is the first left, exit 2 is straight ahead, exit 3 is right. If you are intending to exit through exit 2 (straight ahead) and are in the right hand lane, what if someone enters the roundabout from exit 1 intending to exit via exit 3 (straight ahead for that person). If the timing is correct you will cut into the track of this person..
Wouldn't happen. You'd've changed lanes before you got to that exit/entrance. Plus as jamoor said above, you'd be indicating. I think the main misunderstanding with the roundabout is that the dual carriageway is straight on - there is no left turning. The second exit is essentially right, and the third exit is almost a complete 360 - as I said. I think it's just a case of TTIUWP.

Yes but we don't live in an ideal world. In the real world you get numpties who fly onto roundabouts faster than they should and ones who try to overtake on the outside etc. I found out the hard way when I had my motorbike.
How do you know for sure that the person in the left lane is not going al the way round the roundabout? You don't know that, especially if you are on the inside lane adjacent to this person. Would you be comfortable cutting across someone in the hope that they are going the same direction as you? I don't have that much faith in other drivers. I learned to treat other drivers like they are trying their best to murder me and so far it has saved my backside quite a few times.

Where did I say I was turning left? The 2nd exit is essentially a bit to the right. the 3rd exit is almost a complete 360. The dual carriageway is straight on.

Sorry your post is very confusing, I read it that your approach was dual carriageway, the first exit also being dual carriageway (so essentially turning left unless it's a very weird rounabout) and you turning left from the right-hand lane.

As you said though talking about idividual roundabouts is pointless without diagrams. :)

I got a slighly different question. At a mini-roundabout with three different points to enter what happens if everyone is giving way to the right, in such a way no one is able to move, because everyone is giving way . Is there any rule on who should not give way and just go?
This happens all the time on a mini roundabout near here. I normally just wait until someone else goes :p

I can see now why people have so much trouble navigating roundabouts near Bristol :D

Assuming dual carriageway approach and dual carriageway exit on a 4 way roundabout:

1st exit = left hand lane (unless otherwise indicated by road markings)
2nd exit = left hand lane or right hand lane (unless otherwise marked)
3rd exit = right hand lane only
4th exit (or back on yourself) = right hand lane only again.

Just use your indicators to let everyone else know.

The most experienced driver goes first :p
