I'm trying to connect my computer to our house network, which two of my friends have been able to I've checked the cables fine plus there's no explanation marks in the device manager so i'm assuming my network card is fine.

I used to get no or limited connectivity but i tried setting the ip and subnet mask manually which gets rid of the limited or no connectivity, however I still don't connect to the network. After checking my lan setting and details I don't have nay dhcp settings which my firneds have.

I've tried going into cmd and tried ipconfig/ release and ipconfig /renew but doesn't seem to help. And i get the message about it not being able to connect to the dhcp server.

Can someone help me as i've ran out of ideas. It's XP home SP2 i'm running if that helps. Cheers

When i run ipconfig /all with manual ip settings this is what i get.

Not sure how to ping the router, sorry.

find out the ip address of the router (either by googling the make, or checking it in one of your friends ipconfig's) and type 'ping *insert ip address*' EG: ping 192.168.2.1 from the command prompt. what's the result?

results from pinging the router.

Have you got MAC filtering enabled on the router? (You'll need to type the router's ip address into one of your friends machines and look for MAC filtering in the settings somewhere.)

got the settings of the router up, the only mac bit they have is this:
Private IP Address (MAC Address: 00-**-**-**-d7-e3)
Private IP Address:
...
Subnet Mask:
...
Public IP Address (MAC Address: 00-**-**-**-9b-e7)

doesn't seem like they are getting in the way. I'm gonna re-try using a mates laptop on my connection again, to see what happens. Thanks a lot for the help so far, you don't know how anoying it is seeing everyone else on the net but yourself, ahhhhhh.

hi moron belowe is your problem:

Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

right click my computer > left click manage > far right double left click "services and applications" > double left click "services" > then on the right hand side panel scroll down and double left click "DHCP" client.

the settings should be: start up type (automatic) under services status in the same box click "start" if you can then apply at the bottom right.

this should enable your DHCP client software so you can receive a vailid IP address from your internet provider.

open explorer to see if any pages load up for you....

hope that helps.

my routers a pain in the ass too, it comes up saying either limited connectivity or keeps swapping hosts, its a belkin and its crap.....when signing in on m$n it never works hardly says either my keyports are down or my DNS pain in the hiner!!!
