Router blocking from specific sites

Hey. So I have a Netgear WGDR14 v6, the one that comes with Virgin Media Broadband connection, and it is blocking me from specific site. I take out the router, and I can connect to the sites properly, so that obviously says it's the router.

I've gone through all the settings and none seem to change the situation, there is no firewall or setting blocking me from these sites. I see there is a firmware upgrade available, to v9 but it's not possible to upgrade from a lower version.

Is there anything I can do?

Is it possible someone else in your house has setup the block and it's not a problem with the router.

I only say this as I used to frequently block my housemates from accessing torrent sites.

Nope, there are only 2 computers on this network and I have full control over them both. I've tried it with the router in, blocked from sites, straight away took it out and it worked, I just don't know what within the router is blocking it. I've gone through all the settings, I think a firmware upgrade is the only possible fix, but to be honest I don't have a clue.

Hmm that's a bit crazy it looks like your not alone with this.

You could try setting your router to access via opendns and see if that gives any better results.

I had a look on the horrible virgin website and there is a firmware update.

Although is this one more recent that the version you have installed already?

Yeah, I tried OpenDNS a while ago, no luck I'm affraid. My cousin recently got the same Virgin Media package, I check my router settings with his and there the same, as much as possible anyway. He don't have this problem, but his router is v9, where as mine is v6, so thats most likely it. I'll try to upgrade it now and report back. Thanks for the link mate.

A few warez sites, phpbb's home site and a few others. I tried the upgrade, it won't take the file to upgrade with, I also tried this before this thread without this tutorial, wouldn't work either time.

That's crazy I'd just try a factory reset then.

Does it make no difference if you enter the ip of the website instead of the website.

What site I'm visiting is completly irrelevant in this case, is phpBB's website in anyway warez? Anyway, it's deffiently a problem with the firmware, and it can't be upgraded to the lastest. There sending me a new router, so this is pretty much resolved now.
