Router & Ethernet Patch Cable Colour Question

A friend of mine has asked me to setup his cable modem and get any bits he needs to connect both his XBOX360 and his PC to the internet.

First off I was going to get just a switch but thought maybe we needed something like a Netgear RP614 Router. Is this a better option?

Also is there a specification that states that patch cables are certain colours for certain devices etc.

You can buy any cat5 cable; colours are just there to help when theres lots of cables

Just disable it then. The price difference between a wireless and wired-only router is pretty minimal and you never know when it might come in handy. You can just disable the wireless AP and forget about it if you want to though.
