Router for Plusnet FTTC?

I'm looking for a router for my FTTC connection but I'm a bit out of the loop. I have a BT modem and then a Plusnet router. Can I get a single device that does both or am I better off leaving the modem and getting a Router?

What's a good router to get? I'm not looking for Mega bucks, just something with GB LAN and decent WiFi for a couple of PCs, few mobile devices and other things dotted about.
 
I try and run cables where I can so WiFi is mainly for phones and laptops. So no need for the super high speed multi antenna solutions.
 
If you want Gigabit and can live with the wireless on the ISP router you could just add a switch. A basic Gigabit switch should will cost you about £20.

If you want improved wireless as well then provide a budget and some basic requirements. Do you want 5GHz support? Do you want Wireless-AC? Do you want an all-in-one option or something to plug into the Openreach modem?
 
I hadn't thought about a switch, that's a good shout. I've got a GB switch upstairs and one downstairs behind the TV, but they are both connected into the Plusnet router which is acting as the 'center' of the network. I could get a switch for the middle and just have the router plugged in there... so only my internet (which is only 50Mb) and my wireless are on the 100Mb Plusnet router.

For a router I'd be looking at under £100 and I'm not worried about an all in one or something I plug the fibre modem into, whatever's best at that price really.
 
I wanted something that was rock solid, that was highly configurable and better than the pn supplied router - plus it supports pn IPTV. It was worth the money.
 
My Plusnet gets installed today.

After a lot of reading, I've decided to opt for a Billion router in modem mode, Ubiquiti Edgerouter lite with a Ubiquiti AP for wireless.

For a couple of weeks I'll just use my current DSL-N55U with the supplied modem.

Wiring up the house at the moment, so the new kit can wait.
 
I'm on Sky, but same principle.

I've tried:
RT-AC87U
Cisco 1921
Any DrayTek Vigor 2860

Always end up back on my RT-N66U with Merlin's firmware. Works by far the best out of the above.

Do you already have the billion? If not why not an openreach modem? :)
 
Nothing wrong with the openreach modems they are amazing at just being a modem :) If your going to buy one get the HG612 if you want to be able to unlock it so you can see stats of your connection.

Out of interest, what was the issue with the cisco? I've run my 1921 alongside my OR modem and a dlink dap2695 access point for over a year without needing to reboot a single device. Something I've never seen from the domestic netgear/tplink stuff I've used before.
 
It sync'd a bit slower than the OR modem, wasn't much of an issue but the connection quality was just much better when not using the 1921. The whole internet experience has always been worse when not using my RT-N66U, not something I can put my finger on to be honest. Just smoother, less lag, less loading etc etc when I go back to the old and trustworthy.
