Any budget? What wireless standards does the machine use? How far apart are they/how many obstructions are between machine and wherever you'd put the router?

The Linksys WRT54GL is popular on here, but it only does 802.11g.

nothing over £40 pref, there within a 3 meters of each other, mines in my bedroom, and hers is in the spare room behind.

i just want something i can plug in and go, i also dont have a wireless card/ thing in either of the pcs

i dont mind a cable router, i thought wireless, was a usb connection you plug in the back, and away you go, obviously i was wrong

cable modem then, that will do, whats the best for the cheapest amount, aslong as my main net connection isnt crappy im happy, the other is only for checking emails/facebook!

You mean a USB wireless adapter? That's the same as a wireless card (except the interface to the machine)...

The only cable modem you can use is the one Virgin gave you, and your only choice of routers to go with that are "cable" routers (i.e. those which don't have a modem). One such router is the WRT54GL I suggested before.
