Router issues

I'm back baby!
My router is connected directly to my master socket, with the face plate off. I've tried a different filter, using static ips instead of dhcp, connecting my laptop via Ethernet, I've reset the router using the pinhole at the back, both with the power on and off. I've tried a different power source (though not quite right rating it gives the same results).

I can't get to the setup page on the router via Ethernet and the @ light is amber.

The Ssid is broadcasting. The default encryption is in place following the reset.

Can't think of anything else to try. Spent 3 hours on the phone to sky. Now I have to wait 4 days for 2nd line to call me!

Any ideas?

No, I get an Apipa address.

The annoying thing is that I can't use another bb router to test.

Are you getting the apipa because you turned off dhcp?
You should be able to get to the router setup page wether the line is connected / working or not.

Sorry if these sound obvious but either the router is knackered or something fundamentally wrong

Can you ping the router ?
Sure you are using the correct IP for the router ? (and subnet mask on the client)
Tried a different CAT5 cable?
If you look at the properties of the wired ethernet on your laptop are any packets being sent/received ?

If you can't connect to the router on what you're sure is the correct IP even after a factory reset, either your router is broken, or your router is broken :p

If the ip is apipa then the subnet mask will be 255.255.0.0, with dhcp it would be 255.255.255.0
It does sound as if the router is broke, dchp has failed so apipa has kicked in.
New router time!

That's my understanding. I just didn't want to wait another 3 days for sky to contact me, and then another 5 days for the router to come.

Ive flashed it from 2222 to 222c but there's no change.

Our lass is due to drop any time so I'm working from home. Couldn't have happened at a worse time.

I can actually access the router admin page while the router powers up

Is that via wireless or by ethernet cable...
I have just thought, if you are using the router to post here the router is not broke... is it just that you cannot access the setup page?
Try another hard reset of the router, at the same time on the computer, release and then renew the ip via cmd prompt. Then try to access the setup page. I would suggest using ethernet to do it.

[obvious]

Have you tried configuring the machine to the same subnet as the modem?

e.g. Machine IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet on both: 255.255.255.0
DNS (also modem IP): 192.168.0.1

[/obvious]

Sometimes resetting the modem and starting fresh on the machine (i.e. not relying on DHCP) works wonders.

I'm posting from my phone.

My laptop doesn't receive an ip address from the router. That's why it generates an apipa address. You can't do a release on an adapter that has no configuration.

Once the router is fully booted up I can't access the admin page via Ethernet cable. Though the Ssid is being broadcast there is no wireless functionality at all past that.

[edit]yep, tried assigning an ip myself. Nuthin doing.

I was suggesting renew the ip on your system, just incase it's got stuck with the apipa, gives it a chance to find dhcp if it has started...
other than that nothing else for it then... new router!

The firmware is crashing, you could try a few more versions to see if it's just a corrupt image, but if it's consistently crashing on different firmware versions then it's probably bad Flash or bad RAM or some other hardware bit messing up.
It's broken enough not to waste time mucking about with it and get a new one.
