Hey there

So I have setup a new system today and formatted/re-installed Windows XP and my router is working fine because all of the correct lights are lit up and the internet is working on the laptop (or else I wouldn't be typing this lol). But on my new system, when I try to open the internet it's not connecting and I have tried the router installation disc but whenever it tests to see if the router is connected it keeps saying it can't find it, yet the router is connected and working perfectly.

Does anyone have any idea whats up with it and how I can solve this problem?

Thanks for your help and time.

You don't need any "router installation disc".

Have you installed the drivers for the machine's network card? Does it say it's connected? Does it even get an IP from the router?

Well, the router says it's connected to the network card but it's not getting an IP or DNS or any of that yet, but I've not yet installed anything from the motherboard disc so I'm guessing thats why then? I need to install the network drivers from the mobo install disc?

If the network card isn't automatically detected by Windows, you'll need drivers for it.

Does it even show up in Network Connections?
