so my PC is 30m form my ADSL router and one 30m ethernet cable is enough. is there i way i can connect my PS3 and 360 (which are next to my PC) to the net.

could i get a switch before my PC and share the net that way, or are swtiches only for data?

would i need a router? if so which one would be good under £20?

what cables would i need?

Yeah this what a switch is designed for :)

ADSL Router ----- RJ45 Cable ----- Switch ----- RJ45 Cable to each device (PC, PS3, 360 etc)

Exactly as Duke stated and exactly how mine is. In the lounge:

Router <-- Xbox 360

| RJ45 to switch in the second room

Switch <-- PC, network printer, NAS.

You could share the internet by running your ps3 through the pc, would need 2 x NICS on the pc and a crossover cable from ps3 to pc, then enable ICS onthe pc,that should work, you would need to setup some ips, might be cheaper but then again you can pick up a cheap 4-port switch for about £10. And pc would have to be on for it to work.

why on earth would you do this..?

just buy a 5 port switch (possibly gigabit if you want to share data between the pc and consoles)

with a switch, you just plug it into the router and it works instantly
