Hi,

I'm after a bit of advice if possible. I have 1gb virgin broadband which is located downstairs on the ground floor. My house has 3 floors (2 and a loft conversion which is my son's bedroom). So I'm after a router which has really good WiFi signal. He uses a powerline adapter for the computer in his room but still needs WiFi for phone usage. Running ethernet round the house for wireless access points isn't really an option unfortunately.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I was thinking about something like the zenwifi xt8 and having 1 downstairs where the broadband comes in and another upstairs on 2nd floor. Since it's tri-band shouldn't it work quite well in picking up and rebroadcasting the signal?

Just checked this out and it's a home mesh system so - this should work as long as you have a full 100% coverage. This might depend on how thick your walls are and if you have any steal beams in the way between rooms e.t.c.

You have gig1, you are entitled to free wifi boosters, why not start with that? I have one UAP-Pro that covers 3 floors, the other option is to plug an AP into the power line adapter at the other end and use that, if the AP doesn't have a pass through port, you may need a switch. For the record power line is an abomination and running a cable is the best option, it's rarely as difficult as people think.
