im with virgin media, and i dunno if its cable or adsl or whatever. is there anyway to find out?
also, i dont want wireless, that is just out of the question.
also, i have an ethernet to usb adaptor i need to use for my internet to work. i do have an ethernet port on my pc, but it wont work without the usb adaptor.

anyway, i dont wanna spend more than 30 if possible, but could probably spend more if i need to.
so if someone could link me to a decent one, would be much appreciated.

20Mb Virgin media is Cable, so you'll need a cable router. But if you're unsure contact virgin...

Do you need a modem? doesn't say whether you have one.

and why do you have to use that adaptor? a) it looks like a piece of crap b) doing it over USB is crap c) CRAP!

I'm with virgin media.
If you have broadband only you may well have a moden like...

If you have the TV service as well, your modem may be in a set top box....not sure if they have changed that yet made by Pace or Samsung.

They seem to like to set it up with USB, but if you turn modem off and hook it up over ethernet it should work.

I've done this for a few people in my area so I know it does.

If you then need a router for more than one PC, I'd look here BUT for a few extra quid look at this.
All new laptops come with wireless, and you may well find the extra few quid money well spent in years to come.

Take time here as it seems vigin media do ADSL..

ep, Virgin Media ADSL is also now available, as the non-cable alernative to the main Virgin Media cable broadband.

Yes.
You can in theory use 4 wired computers and err lots of wirless ones (not sure on exact amount) but I think virgin media like max of 3 at any one time.

i think buffalo routers are very good, they do an adsl one and also a cable one (which i use) far superior to netgear which i have no end of problems with.
