Rover 25

I had a ZR 120 for a little over 18 months

Great fun to drive. Seriously good fun - revvy engine, handles like a dream, wonderful steering, etc.

Unfortunately it cost a small fortune to keep on the road which is why I sold it. Regretted selling it as I replaced it with a dreadful Astra Coupe (which also cost a fair bit in repairs)

I would therefore agree with the comments saying fun to drive but not to own!

I wouldn't like to be going out with the kind of birds that are attracted to a ZR. I'd rather have a girl after my chequebook over a girl that'll give me herpes.

I'd rather have neither!

Maybe i put it badly, i just meant that generally everyone seemed to like my mg zr when i had it, even the opposite sex who traditionally tend to not care about cars as long as its a nice colour? ;)

I certainly don't hang about with chavs thanks :p

OOoo as usual the MGR haters are out in force :D

I own a Rover 200 1.4iL (essentially the same as the 25 / ZR) and have never had a problem from it, other than the alternator failing (pretty sure it was a generic part though so hardly a Rover specific fault). The handling is fine and the K series engine is extremely good... Admittedly there is HGF to worry about, but try not to let that put you off ;)

If you like the styling and can find a good one with lowish mileage then I would go for it :). If you get a facelift one the interior is vastly improved as well!

They fall apart WITH lowish mileage. I know someone who had a ZR from new and I could pull apart the interior with my hands.

I've owned 2, 214 bubble shape rovers. Drove them both like I stole them, never experienced HGF, the first one got written off by a crazy lady in a Z3 and the other I just sold because I wanted something faster. Clutch went in one at quite low mileage probably due to 1 former old owner lol.

Just bought my 3rd Rover lol this time a Coupe 1.8, but then I'm just a fan.

Nothing ever fell apart...... Was all consumables.

However I am a minority on here, so just go and buy a focus :p

Not true. Cars with 8k can suffer with it. Seems to be more age related than anything.
For somebody that dislikes Rover so much, you seem to know a hell of a lot about them :p

I've never heard of a cylinder head gasket going at 8k and I own one of the damn things and read MGR forums haha :D.

I don't dislike them at all. I think this particular car sat in a dealer showroom for a long long time then the gasket failed after a few k.

I have owned about 4 MGZR, MGZS, they are ok cars the interior is shocking, the seats pull away with your hands, the doors cards drop to bits etc etc, I wouldnt buy one to keep, but they are good sellers for some reason.

Simple dont bother with them. The only people who stick up for them are the one's who own them..

Perhaps because the owners like them after having driven them for more than 2 miles...? Most owners on this very thread have said the interior quality is carp but they like the way they drive.
