Rover 75 Diesel

How powerful? The torque isnt going to make up for it, but it's likely to be less annoying than an underpowered petrol car.

114 BHP and 260 Nm in standard form, although looking about it seems a fairly cheap (circa £180) remap can safely take it to 150 bhp.

There is also a 131bhp version.

People on the owner's club tend to go to around 160-170bhp with the aid of a tuning box, and don't think any major failures have been reported.

Ah, sounds more like it, how can you tell the difference between the two?

For the love of god no! my mother has just got shot of her 5, they have a motherload of design flaws because its basically a BMW 5 series bodged to accommodate rover bodywork, they had to take the entire front of the car off to change the radiator lol, after a certain amount of time of owning them the passenger foot-well will fill with rainwater unless you disassemble par of the car and remove leaves, If you want a badly made car with a reliable engine buy a Proton lol

on the 75 you tell by age. Don't be fooled by CDT and CDTi as this has no bearing on the power output (although a million people swear it does). Check the V5 if you are unsure.

It has no resemblance to the 5 in any shape or form. I wish people would get their facts straight. The plenum drain you mention can be reached by removing the scuttle panel, a one minute job at worse.

that old its a bmw floor pan myth again
for the record its not

as for the tuning boxes, there well worth getting
make the car drive a lot better and mpg isn't worse as u dont need to plant your foot down to get anywhere
a few have covered 120k+ with the synergy tuning box with no engine problems

Sorry I was in a rush so kinda messed up what I was trying to communicate, before the government sold Rover to BMW Rover had been arranging to be bought by Honda, this was a good move for both companies as the Rover 600 was actually a re badged Accord and Rover had been getting Honda to do design work for them for some time. Honda would have benefited too as the UK government had introduced laws limiting the amount of cars they could export to the UK.

However Rover was sold to BMW and so their planned face lifted 600 series had to be scrapped as Honda would not allow it which meant a new design had to be created, at this point BMW gave them the plans for the 5 series and told them "this is how you make a car, but do it your way" and thus the abomination that is the rover 75 was born. It wasn't really rovers design teams fault, the same thing would occur if Lambo gave Kia the plans to the Gallardo and told them to make their version of it.

And yes the leaf removal is a one minute job if you know exactly what your doing however its not mentioned in the manual is it? so until your car floods you wont know about it, you then have to take it to a dealer and get charged £100+ to have it fixed (they prob wont tell you what the problem was either) and your stuck with mats/carpet that smells like a swamp until, not good design IMO
