Rovers Return.....w00t!

Whoopty-do, that was fixed under warrantee - it was also resolved whereas K-series HGF is just an ongoing thing. There is no Nikasil problem now.

Not all of them were fixed under warranty, many owners had to stump up the cash to get it fixed themselves. There are still engines running around on the original nikasil bores AFAIK, just as big a time bomb as the haed gasket on a K series and vastly more expensive to fix.

So did the nikasil lining disintegrating on some of BMW's engines, but we don't have that brought up on every other thread...

Maybe becuase BMW put their hands up, admitted it was a mistake, recognised there was an issue and replaced all affected engines completely free of charge?

My own view is that people will see this for what it is (without really knowing that MGR is back) and not buy it, therefore loosing out before they have even 're'begun!

If, they kept their plans for the new '7', at least they could start contract deals within the commercial industry and secure orders for company and lease cars.

Instead they are basing their future and hopes on a sports car whose history has never been one to uphold......

Asking for trouble tbh!

None of it's real anyway. Just propoganda.

I still stand by my view that soon the factory will be packaged up and shipped away :)

Won't take them long. Probably can afford to mis-launch an illconcieved idea to bankrupt the company again, just so they can make good reason for completely removing it :)

Unfortunately I'm inclined to agree with you. The idea of making a sports car might be more exciting than making a decent large saloon/coupe but the reality is that the (two seater/convertable) sports car market is a relatively small one, and I doubt there is any room for another offering unless it realy is exceptional.

But they didn't, it was done on a case by case basis AFAIK, some owners definately had to pay for it themselves.

The K series engine in my Rover 420GSi was awesome! Really revvy little unit and pretty powerful when you worked the box. In fact, comparing it to, say, a Ford Mondeo 2ltr of the same period its a really entertaining car. Same amount of power as the ford, but a smaller and lighter car. Only downside is the decent performance is reflected in the insurance, weighing in at group 14.

Sure, the chassis and body is dated these days, but when they were released in the 90's they were quite handsome cars, with a quality interior and decent performance.

Its just a shame that they continued trying to sell the 25 and 45's as modern cars. Up against the focus they dont really stand a chance, whereas the 75 is a lovely cars and can be picked up as real bargains now.

I havent seen the new TF, but it has a hell of a lot to live up to its its taking that name! Good luck to them anyway.

Would have been an M or T mate, not a K.
Good engines though, power, torque and sound pretty good.
The M has a cool induction roar. :D

Yea, the 2 litre Mondeo was rubbish compared to a 2 litre Rover 400. The Rover 400 was easily class leading, better than the Mondeo in terms of handling, quality, etc.

Hey hang on, did we step into an alternative dimension just then? :p

I don't think Chinese could manufacture any of the previous models without forking out for licenses (which is why they wanted Rover and production lines in the first place - modernised versions of civics, accords, an odd beemer design, pack all up, ship it home, save on reverse engineering).Which means they will come up with some cack, let it flop, say "whaddya gonna do, would't sell" and dissapear in thin air...

You wouldnt notice if we had, your blinkers are on so tight. :p

Maybe not class leading, but then again a mondeo certainly wasnt class leading either! Only the recent mondeos (99/00 >) could be classed as that. The previous ones were decidedly average at best.

Not at all, infact, if anything its the other way round. From its launch in 1993, the Mondeo revolutionised this class of car and was class leader more constantly from 1993 until 2002ish. There were cars which did some things better, but nothing as comprehensively good across the board. Not even a Rover (It was actually the 600 that was the Mondeo rival and not the 400).

It was the best Ford in years and signalled a turnaround for the company - previous Fords were... average, shall we say.

Unfortunately, recently it's rather lost its crown a bit. It's no longer the class leading car of its type - cars like the new Accord are, whilst not quite as good from a drivers-car point of view, now better all rounders than the Mondeo.

lol I was just going to say.

If you had a K series which was bored out to 2 litres, you'd know about it.

You'd have to have a truck load of headgaskets following you around :D

The K had a great roar. When I went to Leeds on a business trip, I was following a colleague through tunnels. I purposely held back so that I could boot it through :D

The T on the other hand sounds raspy as hell. I love it

Fox - overused picture tbh :p

errrrrr.....yes it is

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....why are rover not still in business? was it not because of their excellent engines?

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .......... i am sorry, but i *hate* posts that start with errrr ...

The reason Rover are not still business is nothing to do with the K Series engine. It is perhaps a very small contributing factor but the main reasons are quite complex and can be traced back decades.

OMG, GUESS WHAT I SAW TONIGHT

LOL, I've only just got home from work.

Bloody traffic everywhere. Got stuck on the motorway for an hour, and what do I see in the distance... a silver car.

Get a little closer, and what's this... it's an MG TF on a truck  Yeah, I'm sure you guys can guess what happened :(

Saying that, I nearly had HGF as well! When I changed the radiator on Saturday, I found out that the radiator's fan temperature sensor was a slightly different shape to the plug, so it kept popping off.

On the way home tonight, I had the heaters on to keep the engine cool, until I finally got off the motorway and stuck in more traffic. For some reason, I turned them off while waiting at a set of traffic lights.

More moving slowly and I decide to look at my temp gauge... ARGHHHHH, why is it near the red *cries*

So I pull into another lane and get out of the traffic quickstyles.

Needless to say I nearly cried when the temp started to fall again. Phew!
