Royal Family - Abolition?

oooh careful virii will jump down your throat and call you a nasty racist. Because in his world the word german is a racist term.

When it is used in the context of a string of insults then it is yes.
However once again you single me out by name, what is your problem exactly?

Nana said:
actually no, last time you were illiterate.

Not at all.

When mentioning someones racial origins whilst listing a ream of distasteful characteristics it infers that the racial origin is also a negative aspect as well you know.

If someone bumps into you and you call them "a stupid idiot" that is not going to land you on a charge of racism.

If somoen bumps into you and you call them a "stupid german idiot" you have brought race into the argument and that will indeed be classed as racist.

It is precisely what you did :)

God save the Queen.

The Royalty is an integral part of British culture, history and society it's one of the few things that makes us better than most of the rabble on the continent.

I would rather go to war for the Queen than for Tony Bliar anyday.

I am completely indifferent to them. I think it's part of the UK and it's a nice tradition. However I don't see them as positions of power anymore. If they exercised their power and right to rule their country I'd have a bit more respect for them. As a tourist attraction and traditional values I like them. For anything else they are nothing. Then again this is maybe my French roots comning through a little ;)

Don't forget that the Queen is head of the Church of England and the Armed Forces.
Both of those are positions of power and influence. She is also head of the Commonwealth.

Does she actually DO anything though or is just a figurehead? Does she still have the power to dissolve parliament, how much does she influence in those positions that she is head of? I honestly don't know, and not trying to bait by my questions. :)

She has the power to dissolve parliament, its the only legal protection that prevents a government from abolishing elections once in power and establishing a non democratic governement. Also Acts of parliament don't become effective till the monarch signs them, though the last time the Royal Act of Assent was refused was 1708 by Queen Anne.

Because of the Queen and her family, billions of pounds come into this country through trade let alone the tourist industry.

Don't get me wrong mate, but that sounds as fanatical as some of the recent Muslim *war mongering* protests we had in London the other week.

If the Queen or any Royalty factor (Or even a Muslim preacher) asked me to go kill, I'd question their grasp on reality and tell them to go away.

Simple as that.

I see your point and will raise you a 'It will have to be a just war'.
I wouldn't go and fight over oil or a cartoon.

I think that she "does" quite a lot. I don't think that the commonwealth just came into being overnight.
