Sent something RMSD 1pm yesterday and it has not been delivered today (probably due to weather).

If I claim for compensation, how will I receive my money back? Cheque?

Don't be daft. I have a delivery that is over a day late. I ordered a new phone today and the next day service is now 3-5 days because of the weather. I wouldn't dream of claiming for it.

I doubt you'll get anything, does RMSD give an absolute guarantee on delivery times regardless of weather etc? I'd doubt it personally.

I think they have to specify that the guarantee does not hold at the point of sale. Once I bought special delivery and it wasn't delivered due to a strike, but because the clerk had given me the guarantee and not informed me of the strike I was due a refund. If they give you the chance to choose a lower cost service due to the possibility of not being able to fulfil the guarantee then you cannot get a refund.

suspended.
Whilst we are continuing to accept and prioritise Special Delivery™ items, the changing weather conditions mean we cannot guarantee the delivery of items the next day in all areas. Therefore, in order to provide customers with clear guidance, we are removing the Special Delivery™ guarantee for items posted from today, Thursday 7th January.

Half way down the page.
Was your Special Delivery Next Day item delivered after the 1pm deadline had passed?
If so, we’re very sorry and we’ll refund whatever you paid for Special Delivery. An additional payment of £5 will be payable if the item was delivered more than 24 hours (one working day) after the guaranteed time of delivery or, £10 will be payable and your fee refunded if the item was delivered seven or more working days after the guaranteed time.

If you guys read the OP, I posted it yesterday. Yesterday was the 6th, not the 7th.

And by compensation I mean postage cost. On the receipt it said guaranteed delivery for today, it was not therefore I'm entitled for postage cost back.

Yep you are entitled to a refund of postage costs. I think if you phone them they will tell you what to do / send you a form. Make sure you photocopy your receipt with the guarantee on it and make sure you are specific about not being told of any delay.

Then quit whinging and go get it

Can you not read.
When did I say I didn't know what to do? All I wanted to know was how they would return postage cost. Also, it's hard to 'get it' when delivery has not been made. You have to wait till it's been delivered/confirmed lost to claim compensation.

Here, have another rolleyes

You should be able to, you are entitled to compensation. It depends on the value of what you have sent, you could be able to claim up to £500 :D. My Gf's dad is a RM manager ;p

I've got this problem with a new debit card. My old one fell apart (it was old) so I can't withdraw money form an ATM or buy stuff online. I'm penniless till the royal mail decide to deliver it.

No. That is for if it is lost or damaged. To get compensation for delay you have to prove that you have suffered financial loss due to the delay, eg contract not getting through in time or something.
