Google fu is weak for me today, keep searching but getting directed to the wrong pages on RM website and various other forums online, can't get a straight answer.

I have some items to return to a freepost address for a refund, the company suggests just getting a proof of posting, I however would like some kind of proof of delivery.

Can you send an item to a freepost address by recorded delivery?

In my eyes it should just be a case of paying for the recorded part, around 75p IIRC but you know how strange RM can be sometimes.

Just go to an office and tell them to post this with recorded delivery to the address on the package. They will do it, just don't let them think you are trying to send it recorded for free or they will get upset and confused.

If the company are saying proof of postage is enough to claim if it gets lost why are you sending it recorded? Just out of interest.

I had to return a router via freepost but company stated the freepost should be special delivery. First post office i went to was a small local one, they insisted I pay for it if it was special delivery even though it was freepost, went to a larger branch who sent it via special delivery, giving me the proof of postage but without me having to pay.

I did have a pre-printed special delivery note from the company though, not sure if you can do it without it.

In which case it shouldn't really matter, all you need to do if they claim not to have received it is get your compensation from the Post office

Up to £46, which is the same compensation as recorded delivery.

I'm aware of that, it's just easier to pay a little for the recorded delivery and get the refund quicker than the chance they pull a fast one and i'm left going through the RM compensation process.

I've dealt with RM compensation before, it's a drawn out process.
