Royal Mail - how long are the delays ?

My dad requested a SIM from Lebara for my grandmother’s new phone, yesterday. Was told 7-10 working days. Mid Jan. received today
 
Around 6pm on Thursday I ordered a refurbished ps4 controller from eBay with delivery Royal Mail 48hr. And a couple of games from Amazon with prime delivery.

The controller arrived this morning before the games from Amazon did. Can't say I've ever had a RM delivery actually arrive faster than Amazon.
 
It certainly looks like the post is processing new mail rather than oldest first.

The DVLA did the same during covid - old stuff was stacked at the back and never got processed as there was always new cages of mail literally blocking access to the older mail.
 
Something I ordered on 28th November (dispatched 30th, 1st class) didn't arrive until 21st December. It was a Christmas present for a friend, so it came just in time for me to hand it over.

About half of my Christmas cards arrived after Christmas.

Meanwhile, parcels fulfilled by Evri and DPD arrived on time.

The most important thing though is that the cheesy footballs that I ordered off Amazon at 01:00 this morning arrived 17:00 same day :D
 
I ordered some filters for my vacuum cleaner late on the 24th, dispatched the same day at about 10PM and they arrived on the 29th. Not bad considering there was a double bank holiday in there and a weekend.
 
Amongst the cards mum posted together on 6th Dec were some for places 6-8 miles away from us.

None of them have received our cards and we haven’t received theirs either
 
1st class sent start of 2nd week of Dec still not delivered.

Also the comment saying parcels are prioritised, would make financial sense to Royal Mail as they keep telling us letters lose them money.

Item I purchased and was shipped on the 24th from Cornwell is still at the delivery post office.

Item I purchased from China on the 20th arrived Friday. Seems it's quicker to order from China lol.

Still waiting for a carpet shampoo machine thing (that I won't be using) which was dispatched on the 24th of November.
 
RM have been great with parcels here. Post Christmas all letters fine.

DPD ruined some of our Christmas food, Evri lost one parcel and delivered another almost two weeks late (since Christmas two have been on time).

Yodel, one delivery pre Christmas on time. Yodel!
 
I think it depends where you are in the country and which mail centres the post is going through. I've had most of my eBay purchases arrive pretty quick lately even over Xmas. Also ordered package on the Saturday night week before Xmas and it arrived the Monday morning via RM.

Still waiting for my Evri package which was out for delivery on the Sunday before Xmas before it dropped off the earth. Got claim in with seller.

Mum posted her cards a month ago today. Two relatives (one on each side of the family) live about 1.5 miles from each other in Nottinghamshire. Both use the same delivery office. One was received 29th Dec and the other one not.
 
Before Christmas terrible.
Now.. Much better than evri.

Had a 48 tracked arrive today I sent on time.
And a 24 hour I dropped off last night (6pm) arrived today on tracked 24!

That's special delivery times for 3.95 and parcel collected from door!
