Royal Mail lost my parcel - chances of refund?

I have a receipt from the Post Office from the day I sent the parcel, and have asked the shop to send me a proof of purchase/value for the item so hopefully if they can't find it somewhere in a depot then I'll at least get £30 back, although I'm still losing £35.
I've only got myself to blame for this really and will certainly be paying more in future to insure safe arrival of items.

Yep, I can speak for that. Most of the time, insurances are a scam, but with mail, always pays to get it, if the item is over £30 in value...
Learn from it, and he have my son..!! Better luck next time, I hope you at least get the 30 quid.. I never did though.. Scumming Royal Mail...

don't always assume it's RM that lost it, i sent a package back in november to a shop who claimed they never received it, i wish i'd sent it SD as i could have just claimed the items on the insurance but i had only sent it recorded. after phonecalls to both RM and the company it turned out that they HAD delivered it but the other company had not checked it into their system. the company paid out in the end.

I've not tried to blame this solely on anyone, of course I'm annoyed at RM for losing it but because thousands go missing per day does mean I shouldn't get annoyed due to the fact it was likely to happen?
I've accepted that I should've paid the extra for recorded delivery and have even tried to warn others against following in my footsteps.

Royal Fail lost a rental game I was returning, fortunately I had proof of posting.
Filled in the form, attached proof of posting and print off of current game value new. Handed it all over the counter of my local post office. Waited for a month and then wrang them, turns out they had lost my claim form too
. I blew my stack at this point and vented my anger at the poor woman at the end of the phone, she sorted it there and then and authorised the claim for me purely on what I had told her (I did apologise too 
). Lo and behold a cheque arrived a few days later.
Fill the form out and try your luck, at best you'll get a £30 cheque at worst you'll get nothing.

RM once broke an old laptop I sent Special Delivery but the process to get the hundred quids compensation was so fiddly I gave up on it, they wanted me to post them the laptop AND the original packaging with no guarantee of my money back. As far as I'm concerned they could **** right off.
