Royal mail signed for

I'm on holiday at the moment and bought a 5800x. Royal mail have 'delivered' it and signed for it themselves with signature 'xp1' which is the standard covid one that they say...

Im not back until the weekend so can't check if I've got it. They say signed for is the same as tracked during covid which I find pretty poor. I asked them what happens if it's not there when I'm back and they say contact the sender!

Does anyone know if it's just standard for them to leave signed for packages at the front door?

Unless the OP has designated his doorstep as a safe place to leave deliveries they should ensure someone is in first.

In order to protect both our people and customers as much as possible, we are minimising contact during delivery. We will not be handing over our hand-held devices to customers to capture signatures but instead log the name of the person accepting the item. Additionally, for all customers where we need to deliver any item that won’t fit through your letterbox, we will place your item at your door. Having knocked on your door, we will then step aside to a safe distance while you retrieve your item. This will ensure your item is delivered securely rather than being left outside.

Yeah it's possible they have! Hopefully should be with a neighbour.. But you never know

It's unlikely to be at depot with that signature

Not to deliberately be a downer for the sake of the OP but I’d always recommend special delivery rather than the ‘signed for’ service. ‘Signed for’ just doesn’t seem to work. Every single time, personally or at work, they’ve ****ed it up. It’s like they’ve created a product to cater for a budget audience but then failed to actually develop it.

I hope it's with a neighbour. Don't have their number unfortunately. This is the last time I'm going on holiday without a ring doorbell.

Agree hate this signed for crap. I got it from eBay so it's pretty unlikely of getting my money back / unfair on the seller (well.. he should have sent it by special tbf)..

They used the 'signed for isn't signed for' excuse in the pandemic. They shouldn't be able to use that excuse anymore.

They need to rebrand it or go back to signed.

This could be a messy one for ebay. You as the buyer might actually struggle. There is proof of delivery.
As unwise as it was of the seller to send by signed. It was unwise to have it delivered while you were away.

You're going to be claiming to ebay it wasn't delivered. EBay seller will rightly say it was delivered.
Best case scenario for you is that eBay decide it wasn't delivered and refund you. The seller will struggle to get that 50 from RM.

Have to say. This isn't a slam dunk in your favour like it often is.
The seller has met all the ebay T&Cs

Why buy an expensive item for delivery when you are on holiday? Surely you could have asked the seller to ship it to you when you got back?

Yes I realised my mistake quite quickly, was going to ask the seller but they sent it within an hour of buying. I thought they would send it by special or a courier..

Spoken to eBay and they said it would be covered by eBay money back guarantee. However I take the reps words with a pinch of salt..

He said they would contact royal mail in this case. Knowing RM they would say it was delivered to X coordinates. Grr.

It sounds as though it may be with a neighbour.

Agree. I hope!

The coordinates seem to point to a neighbour so fingers crossed and I remember signing for royal mail stuff for neighbours recently. However I checked my indoor camera and can't see a slip through the letterbox.. only concern.

We have a good relationship with all of the couriers that serve our place but even couriers these days will leave things, we had one from a new delivery driver who left our parcel recently with contents in excess of £70 outside on a public footpath... (not near our front door by any stretch)

Yep. Amazon especially.

They left a 2080ti at my door before. Lol

Yup, to be fair our postie bangs on the door and then waves as she disappears but we have a very secluded area (I've left parcels for days/weeks) and have a good relationship. COVID really did change how companies deliver....

As others have said RM are using the excuse of the pandemic to make signed for not needing to be signed.
Someone sent me a parcel and on the tracking it said delivered when no one was in. They put it in the garage with no note or anything (i've not set a safe place).
Then with work i had sent a phone, tracking said delivered (with scribble of a signature) but it wasn't at the guys house or any neighbours. 4 weeks after I sent it, it turned back up at the office.

OP do you not have contact details for neighbours to drop them a message?

Unfortunately not. Only moved in about 6 months ago, on good terms with them but im not very prepared it seems!!

I got the 5800x for a bargain as well.. £280. Hopefully all is good, if not.. guess it's not the end of the world. Heck, my covid tests to go on holiday have cost double that.

Ah fair enough. Try not to think about it until you get back. Enjoy your holiday, the outcome of the parcel won't change by worrying
