Royal Mail Strikes for the Next Two Weeks

As aposed to them going on strike and not deliver/pickup for rural areas.

It's better to get a service that normally (strike action not withstanding) works 6 days a week than a service that only works when it's profitable (once a week or less for remote areas).

People tend to forget that when RM aren't on strike they do collect/deliver to most areas 6 days a week, regardless of if they've got enough to make any profit on that round.

I should have spent extra for City Link :(

Well i took a visit to my local depot to see if my parcel was there...guess what.

ITS ******* NOT!!

I mean i ordered it on wednesday,it was dispatched on wednesday and it still aint here!!

I dont need it in a hurry but IMO the longer it aint in my hands the more chance some plank will misplace it.

I have had an ordinary delivery this morning although according to the postman he was doing it as overtime.

My Special Delivery has not arrived though.

We are pleased to confirm that the current industrial action has been suspended. At a meeting today between Royal Mail and the Communications Workers Union, it was agreed:

• That both parties commit to talks on all the issues between them, hosted and facilitated by the TUC and supported by ACAS. Both sides commit to reach an agreement by 4 September

• That during this period the talks are on a confidential basis with no media or internal briefings unless explicitly jointly agreed. The CWU Executive and Royal Mail Board will receive regular updates on progress and would also be expected to undertake this confidentiality clause

• That for that period, Royal Mail will not serve notice or take any unilateral action to impose changes by executive action

• That for the same period CWU will suspend industrial action

We aim to get back to normal as quickly as possible, and would like to apologise to all of our customers for any disruption the recent strike action has caused.

they'll just threaten to strike at christmas instead :|

But I thought the CWU weren't trying to harm the business...

Sarcasm aside, we have enough troubling getting the mail through normally at christmas, without any spanners being thrown in to the works. I also couldn't possibly imagine what delivering two days of xmas rush mail would be like. I think that would probably start me arguing with the union members at my DO. Which in some cases wouldn't be a bad thing. ;)

Anyway, deep breaths... that hasn't happened, yet...

We are disappointed to confirm that the CWU has announced further strike action, in the form of two 48-hour strikes on October 5th - 6th, and October 8th - 9th

The Communications Workers Union (CWU) has announced further strike action, in the form of two 48-hour strikes, from lunchtime on Thursday 4th - lunchtime on Saturday 6th October, and from the early hours of Monday 8th - early hours Wednesday 10th October.

This will be followed by an unspecified programme of weekly strikes, starting w/c October 15th, until the resolution of the dispute.

The situation is very serious, as this action will severely limit our ability to provide any services for the coming period. Customers should expect severe disruption to all postal services during the strikes and for a significant period afterwards.
