Royalist or Republican?

I'm sure Harry thought it was the absolute life of Riley when he was posted in Afghanistan
i'm sure he probably did

Charles is also funny as...
a kick in the balls? his auld fella, now there's someone I could go out on the beer with....he'd get you into punch up no doubt but he'd be funny as **** right up till he offended everyone in the bar and got you a smack in the mouth :p

Net or gross?
Neither.

I don't run a business. My earnings relate to my take home pay.

So gross doesn't come into it, I don't make a profit and I do not deduct costs form said non existent profit; and if I have no gross then there's is no net by default.

Centuries of stability (relative)

Seriously? Stability? For the normal person, for whom cars, electricity, internet, literacy, common law and generally everything we take for granted you think that the past few centuries were stable?

the absolute stagnation over the last 30-40 years

Have a word with yourself. The past 10 years has delivered more changed than the past 100 combined.

Well, if you were claiming Gift Aid then it would effectively be gross.

Take home pay is normally net of income tax.

I don't pay income tax.

So in that case your earnings are not sufficient to trigger income tax then?

I wasn't surprised this year, as of every year to hear that what's behind Her Maj's Christmas message is a load of tosh.

The official picture of her speech has been released with an idea of "the message" she will be spreading. Before she's even aired or said it, it seems to be along the lines of respect and understanding...as she's sat in front of some mega expensive gold piano or harpsichord, whatever it is. I just could not but wonder if that thing was sold, though it probably be priceless, what sort of money it could raise and support how many families on the poverty line and for how long.
That's some real respect and understanding right there. And I thought...what is the point of you?

It just reinforces to me that I'm a republican.

What be you?

Yeah, there's nothing at all valuable in the White House or other official buildings for heads of states in any republic.

If your concern is money, why would you want to get rid of an institution that makes a large profit for the treasury (monarchy) and replace it with one that's purely a cost to the treasury (republic). That makes no sense.

Since the queen's speech is written by the prime minister (or, more likely, written by someone else and approved by the prime minister), you should be criticising the PM for it being a load of tosh.

That's new topic matter and doesn't relate to this one.

Sounds like a good thread.

?

I think we're already in that thread. You've highlighted the wealth of the royal family. You've mentioned respect and understanding. You've stated that you donate 5% of your earnings, which aren't sufficient to trigger an income tax liability, to charity, split between domestic and overseas charity.

I think it relates perfectly. What are you afraid of revealing what charities you support, and why?

Not bitter at all. Just reasoned.
You should try it, it's better than...you're great because...you're my queen.
She is great for many more reasons too. If you looked into it, you'd probably then validate your claim at being "reasoned" :D

Merry Christmas, God save the Queen!

I'm a royalist as deep down I know I'm nothing but an uppity peasant. I don't question my betters .
