RPG for DS?

Does it measure up against the FF's for the PS2? 10 and 12?

For a Longevity(Sp?), etc
I'd say no. I only had about 30 hours on the clock when I finished it. Although I did die a lot so that adds maybe about 10 more hours onto that. There aren't as many sidequests as later ones, and the story isn't as developed as well. But you have to remember that apart from the graphics it's actually very close to the original. The only other difference is it's got actual player characters rather than the generic heroes in the original. Not that it really changes much, just a few extra scenes and a bit of changed dialog.

Isn't there a sort of erm...lawyer game? that is similar to an RPG? i think that caught my eye when looking through my local retailor

Phoenix Wright?

I'm not sure that's the type of game he was wanting when asking about RPGs

You're thinking of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Supposed to be good - there's also a sequel, Phoenix Wright: Justice For All. Although I think as the previous poster mentions, they're more adventure games than RPG's.

Other DS RPG's include:
Contact
Children Of Mana
Mario & Luigi Partners In Time
Magical Starsign (not out here yet)
Lost Magic

There are loads of good GBA RPG's you can play on your DS, e.g. Golden Sun. I'm currently playing through Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and loving it.

It's more of an point-and-click style adventure game (ala Monkey Island) than an RPG, but it is apparently a very good game nonetheless.

Also along the lines of that is Another Code (short but pretty good) and Hotel Dusk (which I really want to get).

As people have said, the Final Fantasy series are amazing. I've played Final Fnatasy Tactics Advance and FF1 and 2 (which come together but I forget the name) and they're ace.
