Looking to get a nice RPG i can get my head into.

There seems to be a lot more now on the system.

Looking at games like Lost odessey, tales of sonata, tales of vesperia, infinate undiscovery.

Anyone got any views on these games or know of any out there that are worth a blast.

Blue Dragon is very good, I'm working my way through disk two right now.

Got Lost Odessey and that's next on my list to play :)

Lost Odyssey is very very good, and feels very FF7 esque if you take the fact it's a very tried and true JRPG, and is quite a long game at 4 discs (which it's worth installing on the 360 as it cuts load times by about 1/3).
Star Ocean is also good but has one of the most annoying characters known to man...'kay? That said the graphics and general multiple sub plots of the game make it worth a shot.

Eternal Sonata is utterly charming, and actually really rather good, so I'd definately recommend it if you like asian influenced titles; it also has an almost unreal amount of respect for Chopin, and is a slightly touching game, with an equally bizzarre ending.

If you're after a more EU/US RPG, then Mass Effect and Fallout are both worth a play; Oblivion also however I always found it a little too open world to get into.
Enchanted Arms if you can find it is a reasonably well made little JRPG that can be had very cheaply, and looks pretty good, however is a little basic (probably a 7/10 game, reasonable, but not special)
Blue Dragon is a true JRPG, looking like an Anime, has some annoying characters but is moderately solid.
I haven't played Tales of Vesperia yet.

My personal picks as best on the console would be Star Ocean 4, Mass Effect and Lost Oddysey, with Fallout 3 and Eternal Sonata narrowly missing out. All are worth installing onto your HDD though, as they all benefit to a greater or lesser extent.

I haven't got round to playing Infinite Undiscover or Last Remnant either, but I understand both are fun but flawed; Lost Oddysey or Star Ocean 4 are a better example of the genre, in slightly different ways.

As a run-down, out of 20, I'd give the games:
Star Ocean -17
Mass Effect - 18
Fallout 3 - 16
Oblivion - 15
Eternal Sonata -17
Lost Odyssey - 18
Blue Dragon - 15
Enchanted Arms - 14

I actually bought a 360 last week primarily off the back of the JRPGs available. So far i've only got my teeth stuck into Lost Odyssey and i have to say it is fantastic. Really similar to the older style Final Fantasy games (by that i mean FF7-10 before they started messing with the combat systems). The storyline is ok, enough to keep you pushing forward but the graphics, combat and dungeons are all brilliant.

Highly recommended.

Wonder how long it will take before you get tired of the combat in Lost Odyssey. ;)

Just doesnt have the imagination of a classic JRPG. I mean no summons at all and the spells look quite weak and uninspired (ie bland)

I'm betting by maybe start of disc 2 - But maybe you will still love the combat you better cos theres no avoiding it even when you are just trying to get quickly from A to B.

Out of the bunch mentioned above Fallout 3 is probably my favourite.

Well into disk 3 and still enjoying it :p

It's not as good as final fantasy 7-10 by any means, but tbh i'd rate it above FF12. The combat has one too many unnecessary animations and pauses but i'm not that fussed about it at the end of the day.

But then, i hated Fallout 3 which probably explains why you didn't like the combat in LO

Wow - disc 3 already in a week? you are pretty hardcore about your RPGS eh. I usually play for a bit then play smt else and go back to it unless smt else grabs my attention. Admittedly the environments are nice and pretty in LO and the music by Nobo is also great. Story is good enough maybe i'll get back to it one day.

I hated the combat in Mass effect so that kinda scuppers your theory there though :p loved combat in FF7 - thought it was perfect - unfortunately they had to go and mess with perfection.

When i get a good JRPG i really obsess over it for a couple of weeks, once it's done i leave it aside for a few years and then eventually replay it over the course of a few months. I think i've already racked up the best part of 20 hours :/. I'm actually disappointed by the music, it's above average yeah, but it isn't 'Nobu good', it just seems a bit generic for his work.

Interesting, i loved the combat in Mass Effect :p. FF7 is the daddy of all RPGs for combat though you are right, i just wish it had as much scale as FF10, but that i mean the ability to unlock the health bars and damage limiters and fight some stupidly badass enemies (penance still gives me nightmares, took me over an hour to take him down!).

Started tales vesperia last night and im really enjoying it so far .
The anime graphics are different from the ones i have played before but still look good .
Even though i have only had a few battles the combat system looks vast but still easy to use ,well at the moment anyway :D

I really want to play vesperia as i loved symphonia very much. Problem is apparently the PS3 version is going to have quite a bit of extra content and even some of the voicework is being redone (also hoping they'll put in the original Japanese voices!). Being the JRPG addict that i am, i'm trying to hold on for the more 'complete' version.

Just looked on web and star ocean looks like a bargain ,only problem is all the installing of discs .:(
Has it been announce for the ps3 at all ?
now ive come to think of it tales of vesperia must be short if a lot of rpg,s on 360 are two or more disc,s like the one,s been mention .

It's only 3 discs, takes half an hour tops, and once installed, bar a few xbox freezing/stalling bugs [which could be my 360 being an arse now and then], it's been pretty rocksolid framerate wise, especially when you consider it's one of the best looking 360 games I've played :)
