Anyone else out there ever play Role Playing Games? I don't mean World of Warcraft - I mean proper old school pen & paper games.

When I was younger I played most of the more prominent games as well as some niche* games.

I was in a good D&D group. I also had some great fun playing Call of Cthulhu, Vampire and Paranoia.

Anyone else or am I just showing my age?

*For any Americans, niche rhymes with quiche not snitch

Had a couple of games of Paranoia with my cousins when I visited them in New Zealand. Pretty good fun.

We each had our own submission that we had to try and carry out, mine was to steal the thing we were delivering and someone else's would have been to murder me, and it was good fun trying to work out who had been told to kill who whilst still maintaining that we were all just trying to delivery the item.

Edit: Hero Quest! Think we might still have it in a cupboard somewhere...

I still have all five box sets of Dungeons and Dragons basic sitting on a shelf behind me.

:D

I feel bad for those who stopped playing when they started having sex. Like the wide world of intercourse took so much of their concentration that it'd all go horribly wrong if they allowed themselves to be distracted by it :(

Me, I played when I was a kid, then when I was a teenager, a little after that but now not so much - haven't had a game in 5 years or more. Only ever played D&D really, a bit of Warhammer Quest but I always thought that was a bit of a poor man's D&D.

@Greenlizard0, you're talking about the Fighting Fantasy books? I remember those - "If you take the left fork turn to 63, if you take the right fork turn to 85" and so on. Easy to cheat :)

Edit: Never really role-played though. Didn't put on any voices, never once wore a cape and certainly didn't dress up in full costume and run about the woods throwing bits of tin foil at people.

ahhh old skool rpging :D oh yeah used to back in school and even a club at uni. (not LRPG tho) Mainly 2nd edition d&d (inc oriential version) Played some judge dredd cyberpunk stuff as well. Heck i had all the hardback handbooks too. players guide, monster manual, dm's guide...and a giant glass full of all shaped dice in the universe you could evvvvveeeer imagine!

Ahh the power of imagination! We didnt need consoles in dem days

I joined a mates D&D game back in secondary school, I couldn't keep a straight face when they started talking about what their characters were wearing and was promptly asked to leave.

I think there is a point at which I could enjoy it, however I would say that certain groups really do take it a bit far.

Oh yes, lots and lots.
DND, Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Wraith, Call of Cthulu, GURPS, MERPS, AEON,in fact I have played most games at some point.
I still play occasionally but find it hard to make the time around work and the family.
I even used to do LRP regularly but I'll never pick that up again.

But never card games like M:TG or wargaming. The appeal was it was free, I never fancied needing to shell out hundreds to be able to play games.

We used to get really really stoned and play DND & Shadowrun at Uni. Never bothered with the rules or dice beyond the character creation.
