RS3 insurance cost

I wasn't buying, could have had the use of one for a year while the owner was working abroad, but not at that price LOL.

The Audi RS line have been silly money to insure for years nothing new in this case. I was quoted a similar price getting on for 20 years ago now.
Have they? I've had 2 B5 RS4s - one I had in 2007, so 6 years old, and one I had (well still have) in 2013 odd. I was 25 back then and it was modified and that was £1250 a year - highest I've ever paid for insurance. Fast forward and it was about £600 last time I insured (again slightly modified). I've never had any other RS car and I think the RS3 is a bit of a hooligans car and hence the cost of it. Both of those were insured in London SW19 as well...

Agreed, and certainly not in the top ten of stolen cars either.
As I stated with my M235i shop around.
The same bank, Lloyd's, quoted me £600 just now. Car insurance is a scam these days and forcing us not to own one. Ridiculous!

I got rid of my RS6 because the insurance costs became crazy, I have a new S4 avant now, I wouldn't call it cheap to insure but it doesn't make me wince either :p £479 with all the trimmings, RS6 was ~£900

Apart from the whole stolen thing. The manufacturers are largely to blame too when a headlight or bumper is costing £1000s.

A minor bump ends up costing a large percentage of the car's value to fix when you add in the "we saw you coming" markup repairers add on for insurers.

Seems a shame to get rid of an awesome car for £35 a month, heck spend more than that on a round in the pub!

Yep it is less than a round of shots, but sadly I just don't need 700hp anymore, I still like to have a reasonably fun car but I probably drive it a handful of times a month. so I went for a bit of middle ground, S4 for fun and a Q5 for family duties.

I would say the fuel bills are wildly different :p

At least when relatively new anyhow, I can't speak for all the iterations, but I know quotes in the £4000 ballpark aren't unusual. I was quite surprised as usually I get good quotes for performance cars, actually cheaper for some stuff like a Nissan GT-R than some bog standard mass produced car :(

It's stats based. Certain cars just attract a certain crowd, it's not so much a myth. E.g. BMWs were always more expensive to insure, some insurers just say no because the amount of claims got ridiculous.

How in the hell did you manage that? Was it being towed?! I mean I can get that in the A6 bitdi (well an a bit more on a run) but you have to be fairly nice to that!

That was driving it back from the dealer on the motorway, but I can get similar if I'm on a longish journey, I think it's a fantastic engine, great economy with tonnes of torque, chews up the motorways and is still very enjoyable around my local lanes.

I do have the B9.5 so that's a similar TDI/Hybrid lump as the S6, I think?

I had a 2016 RS7 for a bit, found it very good on the motorway with the 4cylinder deactivation, it did 36mpg at 70 in eco mode.
Always pleased me seeing 200mph on the dials haha. Did you have the optional heads up display on the windscreen, I erm found that 'useful' hahaha!

Yeah, I quite agree, it was average at best, the main reason I remember it was I cracked the windscreen and trying to get the right glass was a right ballache, I had three wrong screens, they kept turning up without the HUD reflective glass.

It was a fairly impressive crack, scaffolding clamp on the motorway

I'd be pretty annoyed with 40 from a diesel (his will be a diesel) on a motorway journey to be fair.

It's an RS6...?
Mine is the bitdi 3l V6, so I think it's pretty good in the 40s for what it is. My Octavia VRS wit hthe 2.0tdi only hovered around 50 and that had nearly half the power...

Noooo two different cars matey:
First piccie (2mpg) is the RS6 (v8 petrol)
Second piccie (40mpg) is the S4 (v6 diesel hybrid)

Exactly. Many of the insurance providers are re-profiling their customer base in an attempt to make some money from the car insurance sector.

I had this with Sainsbury's, I used them to insure my cars for years as the prices were fair and I got loads of nectar multipliers by using home, car, banking and travel services.

But a few years back the renewal was doubled, after speaking to them they basically admitted their underwriter didn't want the risk/business and priced me out of the policy

ha! Totally missed the first pic!!
I'm tempted with that engine in the S6 - is it any good? I presume it's the same 345 ish power? My bitdi is on about 112k miles now, but I do really like it!

Yeah 350ish, I think it's great, it's quite obviously a diesel but the hybrid supercharger does a decent job of negating lag, lovely interior too, that was the primary reason I bought it :p
