Over there...
Looking for new bikes, was originally sold on the GSXR Thou, but TPFT insurance is coming in at £1000, which, quite frankly is stupid (Bike is secure, but stored on the road, in less than the best area).

ZX10s, R1s all similar.

Except, when i quote for an Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille it comesin at £500. Now the RSV-R is £900 - what i would've expected, so whats the diff between an "R" and a non "R"?

Why would the RSV Mille be so much cheaper? Is the performance much worse on the Mille?

Hey Pug,

The difference between the 2 bikes from what i have read is that on the RSV Mille you get 128 BHP and a top end of 167 Mph, The RSV R is more powerfull it has 138 BHP and can do a top end of 151mph which is less but wouldnt exactley bother me. I am not sure what aprilia have done though becuase in the Mille they have changed the BHP slightly to get the most out of the bike over the years, what model were u looking at?.

They are both excellent bikes and go like hell with a fantastic V twin soundtrack in your ears. Also i think they both looks excellent.

The big insurance difference could be to do with the age The rsv R is 2005 and the Mille started in 1998-2003 as far as i know. When i was getting quotes for my Fazer the difference between 2006 model and 2003 model was unreal.

Are you talking about the old style R and non R's or the old style mille and the new style R??

if it is both old bikes, the power is the same, just the R's have ohlins front and back, same engine, OZ wheels, some have akroprovic exhausts!

That V twin would sound even better with the Akrapovic on it. Thanks oakesy for that, i was still quite confused about how in my mag from BIKE that they had different power yet when i went on some sites they has same BHP but only slight Different Torque but nothing that you are gona notice.

well, all i have to go on is that if i want a Mille it'll cost me £450, if i want an RSV-R it'll be £900 for insurance...

Individual power outputs dont really matter so much, its me getting insured on a super sports i'm interested in!

i know nothing about non-jap bikes, and am kind being forced to look at them. Everywhere i go i'm hearing positive noises tho...

I would suspect even Mille will be a fair piece quicker than my ZX6 :D

Not so sure why its THAT much cheaper than a R1/GSXR Thou tho...

I am a big fan of the GSXR myself if i wanted a sportsbike i would probably get a GSXR 750. One thing i have been told about insurance is that one of the things that they can base how much you pay for your insurance is stuff like how many have been stolen, Wrote off and with a bike like the GSXR which a lot of people have got it makes sense.
The only thing that i have noticed about Aprilia is that there parts are not as cheap as most companys like Yamaha, Honda etc. I know this is only a scooter but i had to get a new exhaust fitted when i had my first spill and Aprilia wanted £460 Notes for a Scooter exhaust! so i got a Leo Vince instead but it could be just for certain bikes.

Oakesy, what were parts like for your RS 125 when u had it?

not to bad at all, I had to buy a rh fairing, a full sticker kit and a standard exhaust, got it all within a week straight from italy, DK Motorcycles got them for me. Parts just wernt an issue, think it was £500 and something for the lot and it came painted.
My dad had a mille, he loved it so much, that he has now had his R1 for 3 months, and he is selling up to get a new RSVR.! lol
My dad had no issues reliability/parts wise with his mille either.

The reason it's probably cheaper is because despite being a litre bike, it's not got much more bhp than a modern jap 600. However, it has a **** load more torque and you won't need to rev the balls off it to get that torque either (though when you do, be careful you don't get pulled off the back! :D ).

Thats also a good thing about the V twin sports bikes. Unlike many sports bike there is not a very severe power band were you hit so many thousand RPM's and all the power of the bike comes in, its like all the power is more even and spread out through the rev range.

they are nice to ride (what I can remember from riding my dad's, I was only 18 and very excited). The torque is instant and relentless, out right paceaint much more than my R6, but it is a bit more and certainly a lot more torque right from the get go, stunning bike! I considered one, but I wanted a nutter 600 first! :D

i would agree, except for the price of the RSVR - which only has either 10BHP more, or the same... :?

Might not ask questions and just buy one!

the old Mille and Mille R have exactly the same engine, the new RSV-R (lower model) and factory (equivalent of the old R with ohlins etc...) also both have the same engine, which is a slight development from the old mille engine.
Only difference could come from the exhaust and optional apprillia eprom chip (probably about 6-10bhp)

But yes, new or old, mille R or Mille R, factory or RSVR they are one hell of a bike.

right, now you've confused me again (hopefully its a typo!)

The Mille is affordable, the Mille R is not.

so, will the Mille "non R" be the bike i believe it to be?

Mille = origonal mille, very nice bike. (pre 2004)

Mille R = origonal mille as above with ohlins and OZ wheels. (pre 2004)

RSV-R = new style (after 2004) Mille no ohlins.

Factory = New style equivalent of old mille R (I.e ohlins and oz) >2004

top two have same engine, bottom two both have evolution of the older engine.

The very earlyest of mille's were slightly different (not much but you wont belooking at them anyway probably)

That better? it is very confusing! the quick answer is.... they are all fantastic bikes!

It will still be a kick-ass bike without costing the earth on insurance.
