Which style of gaming in RTS do you prefer.

Do you like to build a fancy base, with good defenses when possible...

Or do you like to build an army fast as possible and just Blast crap outta everything?

Personally i like slower paced games where i can set up a nice looking base, then gradually build up my inventory of troops etc. Then wreak havok later... unless of course i havent been annihilated by that point... Which happens more often than not :D

build a base, it's always ruined when there are super weapons about though eg. missle silos etc. (fun when you have them but not when your enemy does)

Both, The top one I like because I started out with those games ( aoe 2 ) but also the bottom, because RA2 quick skirmish is still awesome to do imo, just spam 100's of tanks and attack, forget about base defences all that counts is money and unit production :p .

No definate winner though, also love setting up an inpenetrable fortress in any rts game.

Yeah there is nothing worse than building a base, having perfect walls and turrets around it... then bam.. a nuke takes out ya gear... c+c style power generators go down, nightmare :(

The key was always to build everything as spaced out as possible, but that was no fun !

It's to prevent ''camping'' always have some airstrike or so standby to blow a Superweapon to hell.

In C&C I've learned to never bother with base defences, just chunk out loads of units asap and go for the enemy base b4 superweapons come in.
With usa in RA2 I just make loads of them mobile sam things (rly can't renmber name lol) for protection and once i get a tech center up and running I just combine it with prism and them ''stealth change to trees tanks'' and enemy base is gone in no time.

Aye from what i remember prism tanks were crazy tough when bunched up. Obscene damage.

I remember getting a yard built asap, then more yards... then as many light tanks as possible and just rush the enemy. But that was booooring when it got done to me! lol

I'm a very aggresive RTS player especially with C&C3, I harass very early on trying to take out their harvesters as quickly as possible normally with the very cheapest tank this being the very quick rocket buggys as i play GDI then i send wave after wave of around 5/6 tanks almost constantly whilst trying to tech up and building mamonths with the laser upgrade and build a few of them which is normally enough.

I like to think that if im constantly building tanks and sending in wave after wave my oppenent all only be thinking about defending and thus maybe forgetting to tech up or wasting money of building defences and just generally panicing etc, its extremely fun when i play someone who thinks and plays a like, normally a game packed with action as were both being agressive and attacking.

C&C3 seems so easy, just been doing the NOD compain, and all I do is first use all resources to get loads of guys with rockets, then go defent the tower things for gathering resources, then capture it, and the other, the get another 100 groups of 2 guys with rockets, then go take the base out easilly, thats what I like about C&C3 though, its simple, build massive waves and go own your enemy as quick as possible :D

i build semi, mostly ofensive, first off, i always start with low spec units defending and scouting whilst i build turrets/anti air and cannons if need be, whilst doing this, i always have at least 2 tank stations 2 barracks and a airtrip building forces, by the time all my low units have been destroyed out and about, the enemy normaly start to charge, only to be confronted by a large force which then kills all their troops of which they think they sent in to kill and destroy me and not left much at there own base. then i storm in.

very easy and basic strategy, but oh so effective.

key is not to strike until they send forced, your turrets and forces will hold up and leave enough standing for a charge

im very defensive in my RTS games

build my base up then attack

in supcom skirmish i like to do me vs 2-3 Sorian AI (all focusing on me only)

i normally spend around 30-40mins just building my base and repelling attacks
and when my economy is good and have some experimental built then i attack

would never work against a decent human player tho :D

i would like to play online more and learn some good offensive strategies but the way things are in my house I'm always being called by someone to do something so i cant really play uninterrupted for more than 15mins

I Supcomm you have those that rush a lot in ranked games. I don't really like that style of play but you can combat it usually if you fortify your base or manage to get some tanks built by the time the rusher hits your location.

Survive any initial onslaught and you're usually in a strong position.

My strategy has always been to try and tech-up as fast as possible while also trying to hog natural resources (i.e. multiple harvesters, capturing Derricks etc, and garrisoning structures). Unit production usually comes later which means that I'm very vulnerable to quick rushes.

In games like Dawn of War which have a relatively low unit cap, I think this can work better because it's not like you can just churn out hundreds of weak units (Orks excluded). In order to get the best out of your limited forces you want them to have all the upgrades available. Only problem is that in the opening, you need to produce units to capture strategic points.

i'm deffo the base builder/horder. I hate rushing anything like that, I go for minimum losses of my troops when I attack too.

In supreme commander I've downloaded siege shields etc (and edited them even more to become near enough impenetrable), so I can keep my cool looking base in tact lol (unless they just drive through the shield lol) I also edited the range of tactical missiles so me and the AI can take on each other from across most of the maps without using any ground units, looks quite cool seeign 20 + tac missiles coming at you and your shields taking a pounding.

To be perfectly honest, my strategy has always been to win. I know that a lot of people hate rushers, but ive done it when the game gives them the chance. It reduces your opponents time to turtle effectively, its pretty much shock and awe tactics.

Ive gotten into high rankings of Generals and Ground Control 2, but Generals was humvee troop rush and GC2 was turtle. It all depended on the game for me, but these were strategies that worked 90% of the time.

Thing is, a lot of people miss out on fantastic strategy gaming because they dont rush, i cant describe how much more exhilarating it is to play against a fellow rusher when you rush. Its like an insane stalemate, where your throwing troops at each other, and because its a stalemate thats when your mind tries to throw a curveball to defeat your opponent. They have probably been my best strategy experiences.

I'm a slow defensive type. I will always first build an impregnable base and then build a huge army that will steamroll over everything. I'm also rubbish at RTS games but I love them :D

Only RTS I've played properly online is CoH. You HAVE to rush if you want map domination, no two ways about it really.

No such thing as a good "defensive" player imo, play online and against a good opponent they'll win very rapidly. Best form of defense is a good offense and all that, if the pressure is constantly on them then you'll either win or gain enough of an advantage that they'll not catch up and you'll win later on.

I like building pretty buildings and defences. In coh its pretty easy to defend. Basically place, a riflesquad near the important checkpoints aka fuel. And anti tank guns in the streets roads with an mg post near to give it protection.

Or use tank traps, in the main streets to force them to enter a road full of anti tank guns. There are lots of ways to be a decent defense player.

Though the only way for most of these to work is too rush at the start with lots of troops.
