I have just started playing Red Alert 3, had it in my steam list for ages but never played it. It's not bad but I think I might go back to Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath as I never finished that.

I remember playing Total Annihilation when I was a kid. I must have been playing it night and day absolutely loved it.

Searching google there seems to be so many RTS games about bar are any of them any good?

Agreed , Company of Heroes all the way , you can get the Anthology pretty cheap now , it has the expansions included !

C&C4 was terrible, I just bought Tiberium Wars and it's loads better than C&C4.

I downloaded a demo of Supreme Commander 2 and I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be.

Pretty much all the C&C and RA games are worth a play

I too grew up playing Total Annhilation, which is why I expected SC2 to be natural progression, it's not.

I know it's not all that futuristic, but Age of Empires has alwasy been a decent play and it's just been released free online

I'm still working my way through World in Conflict with the Soviet addon . No base building but the campaign is excellent and I am loving the game.

I'll have to try CoH after.

Forgive me, but am I the only person who didn't really like Company of Heroes?

Two things for me that ruin it:

a) If you're not aggressive you die. Simple as. There's just no strategy for turtlers.

b) You need silly amounts of hard-to-get resources to build the decent units.

Sorry but I just don't think CoH is as great as people make it out to be, unless i'm missing something really obvious?

No people like it for the reasons that you don't.

DOW 2 Retribution might be worth checking out.

Theres you problem right there :) SC2 is a terrible follow up to the original supcom & forged Alliance, they are essentially totally different games. guess which one was practically made for console £££.........

In any case SC2 flopped badly. you can find Supreme commander Gold edition at play for £9 which includes the expansion pack forged alliance. you won't regret it as to this day it's still one of the very best tactical RTS games out there. with huge mod support and custom maps. Gpgnet might be dying out a bit but theres plenty of other ways to play it, via hamachi or tungle.

exactly the dark days of base building and then throwing a blob of units at the other persons base are over.

coh is a great, perhaps the greatest ever tactical rts ww2 game.

high tier units can cost a lot of fuel- but its relative because they also cost a lot for your opponent to. there's few other games that require the same squad/unit micro whilst managing the macro too.

sure the game can be painful, annoying, frustrating - but what game isn't when you're losing.
