I'm looking for an easy to get into RTS, I've not very good at them but do enjoy playing them, I used to play age of empires a lot and a bit or command and conquer code red (I think) I'm looking for a game similar to these, any ideas?

Command and Conquer Generals is very good, and slightly underrated imo.

I have to say that Starcraft 2 really is the king of RTS atm. I would recommend Company of Heroes as the best imo, but it isn't really that easy to get in to.

Starcraft 2 if you're pro, it went over my head just found it too taxing for me.

I can play company of heroes and not get into a state and still win, so that gets my vote.

just watching starcraft gives me a headache. and I wouldn't dream of going online because of how good those guys are.
I'd give shogun a go if it wasn't so expensive.

I have never played an RTS before, I always thought they'd be to complicated and go straight over my head. I do like the look of Shogun though, how easy is it to get into?

some classics in no particular order :
total annihilation + Battle tactics + core contingent
red alert 2 + Yuris revenge
star craft 1
perimeter
supreme commander + forge alliance
supreme commander 2 - more like C&C games
Sins or a solar empire
Dungeon Dfenders - possibly
Darwinia

ground control - limited resources
GUNLOC - limited resources

Cyberstorm - turned based

Company of Heroes

Fun offline and online

Caters for noobs in both cases

Still a solid Online community

Tonnes of mods of a high quality

Brilliant gameplay, always able to do something different tactically and options to do so

I'm not an avid RTS player but of the ones I've played, I'd say I've enjoyed the Men of War series of games the most though I would skip Men of War Vietnam as I just found it too frustrating but all the others are gold in my view.
I would not put the Total war series in the same category as standard RTS game as for me the campaign is the main draw they are however amazing games & I think we will soon get a new version "Rome Total War 2".

Shogun 2 can be picked up for £4 from play currently. I'm just working my way through the tutorial as I've not played an RTS in a while. seems pretty easy to get the basics together.

Supreme Commander 2 is a relatively simple RTS game which is quite quick, about an hour for one game?

If you are a dedicated RTS player would reccomend Shogun 2 and Supreme Commander Forged Alliance.

I agree, SupCom2 is quite easy to get into and play.

Definitely work a look, plus it must cost peanuts these days

I love the Total War series, but also check out Steam for the Dawn of War franchise they has 75% off this weekend.
