RTW2 vram shocker

2gb is a great amount... for me to poop on!

I just had a drop from 50fps down to 5fps for a few seconds. My GPU usage dropped right down then back up a again.

I think I either ran out of Vram or GPU grunt for a moment.

Sounds like it could be a CPU issue - though if it's not able to cache enough in VRAM it may have to go to disk, which could cause a big stutter.

Playing online I was running out of VRAM at max settings. Though the game runs bad for me even on Medium.
On Ultra I was hitting around 10-15fps at some points.

It's early days yet, patches and optimisations will be needed purely based on previous TW games, never played them as RTS hold zero excitement for me.

TW admin post:

Low Resolution Texture when running on Extreme

Hello everyone,

As this issue is growing on it, seems most of the cases fall under this category and so should try the following solutions:
If you are experiencing low resolution textures when running on extreme, its most likely that you don’t have enough video memory.

You can force an override by ticking the unlimited video memory tick box in the advanced graphics settings however this may impact performance.

Another thing, the vegetation alpha is an option that should be set to off for all but the most powerful rigs.

Shadow effects are cpu rendered afaik, turn them to low to help take stress off the cpu.

As with a 670 oc being faster than a 7950 oc, keep dreaming Ian. ;) :p

That does sound exactly like the syndrome of vram ran out. I remember having this issue back then on Crysis 1 with my 1GB vram usage reached max.

It only did it that once. Have now played a good 3 hours solid and it has not done it since. A single 670 at 1080p runs this game fine with all the settings turned up. It drops into the 30's but tbh for this type of game it makes little difference.
