RTX 3060 vs RX 6700XT

Upgrading GPU and looking at either an RTX 3060 or an RX6700XT with the RTX 3060 being the cheaper option but RX possibly a better choice in the long run as newer cards come out. Is going for the more affordable option the best choice or is spending a bit more on the RX 6700XT better over a more extended period of time?
Thoughts?

GPU getting paired with 16GB DDR4 Ram and i3-8350k (will get upgraded within a year)
 
I would go with the 6700XT personally, it's quite a bit faster unless you want to use ray tracing where the 3060 is better, but, in reality I don't think the 3060 is really fast enough to take real advantage of RT either.

What resolution are you gaming at?

If it is 1080 then get the cheaper option, if 1440 then 6700XT. Ray tracing shouldn't be a consideration as in my mind both are weak

I am comfortable doing 1080p so would think id push up to 1440p as a step up
