**RTX 3070 REVIEW Thread**

People waxing lyrical about 2080ti's being worth £300, however a real graphics card you can use is infinitely better than a hypothetical one. So I can't see used prices dropping much between now (£500-600) and when stock of new cards meets demand and retailers have stopped gouging.

Oh and 8 gb is enough. Even at 4k it is so easy to drop memory usage by reducing textures from ultra to high. Done.
Would be nice to pair 3070 with higher bandwidth gddr6x tho.

in fact it is exactly what I'm doing. Not to fit in VRAM mind you, but to get acceptable fps. What is the point of upgrading to high end cards if you can't even get 100 fps.

Ultra quality has been a gimmick for years now. It loads gpu without actually improving the picture. It is absolutely not a requirement.

Until you run out of VRAM at 4K - yes. Obviously some will tell you 8GB is enough for everything for ever and ever amen. Just think if NV hadn't segmented VRAM and sold the 70 with a proper VRAM allocation of 16GB this wouldn't be the case, but no, they got greedy and gimped it.

The 3070 is a cheaper mid range card, putting just 8gb of memory on the card is inline with its target market.

I would be very concerned if there was just 8gb on the 3090 but on the 3070 is fair enough.

It’s a mid range card so it’s not designed to run 4k, at smooth frame rates using high graphics settings. If you buy this type of card you expect to have to do this, or run a lower resolution.

up to a 40% performance delta between a 70 class card and an 80 one, that must be about the biggest performance gap between the 70 & 80 series cards there has ever been, its usually much closer to 20, 25 at the very most.

Good point but look at the power consumption needed to get the extra FPS. Reminds me of 980Ti.

I still feel quite happy with the 2080Ti i picked up last month for £400. Seems Nvidia are living up the their claims though.

Think I'm going to go for a 3070 Palit card in the meantime whilst waiting up in the 900s for the non OC tuff.

i think I'm going to stick with my 980ti for now. Will wait till next summer for new build. Something like a 5900 threadripper and 3070 etc.

I disagree, it's been on lower cards since 2016, putting 8GB on the 3090 would be simply ludicrous and a step too far even for NV. A £500 mid range card should have 12GB minimum, every high end a minimum of 16GB. Let's not forget NV also lined up 70 16GB and 80 20GB cards. They just semgented the memory hoping people would buy twice, a double upgrade in one cycle, because they know how people's brains work.

I have owned 24gb cards for the last 2 years and they don't even get close to using all that even at 8k. What is even more funny is I am not using them ATM because for gaming it is just not needed.

People on this forum get obsessed with things like the amount of VRAM on a card but in the real world NVidia know that people don't care about these things, they just want a solid card that will work in 99% of situations and the 3070 delivers.

Nv marketing the 3070 as 2080ti performance from the off, but its not a 4K card, or the 2080ti was never a 4K card?

My 2070 can game at 4K but the 3070 is pushing out 4K no's similar to the 2080ti but its not a 4K card?

The flip flopping of it can but can't is funny reading.

If I did not upgrade every cycle I would not buy any XX70 regardless of the amount of memory it uses, I would just get a Titan card and skip a couple of cycles. ATM I am typing this on an old Titan card, it has 12gb of memory and is as fast as a 2080 Ti or 3070.

On the other hand if I wanted a card now for some gaming that would last a couple of years a 3070 with 8gb would do fine.

A 3070 even with 16gb of memory in 4 years time will barely be entry level performance.

Your kidding? i got atleast 3 people at work saying to me "You seen the 3070?? looks great, im pre-ordering one" these are current 1070 and 2070 owners lol... they are not overly computer savvy types either, they come to me for advice as i work in the IT Dept, they play WoW and CoD and thats pretty much it. And there are thousands of people just like this.. that 3070 will probably be one of Nvidias most successful ever cards.
