RTX 3090 SLI/NVLink (Help Please)

That's available inside NV control panel.. where you will also find other settings like ambient occlusion, antialiasing, anisotropic filtering etc.

So you should be able to choose from 3 SLI modes:

Nvidia optimal (it picks up the game profile)
AFR1
AFR2

I don't know if this is available for ampere cards though.

Yeah, not going to be that simple ATM with the 3090s. All the SLI settings are missing from the Control Panel Manage 3D Settings. There is only the simple enable (not the force enable) in Configure SLI I can look at them in nvidiaProfileInspector and it has these settings:

Yeah that's how it should look in Nvidia inspector.. I can't put my finger on whether there's a missing hardware component or someone could reverse engineer Nvidia drivers to force profiles..

Meanwhile I know of approx 20 games with working dx12 mgpu support.. I haven't played any, but then big Navi looks looks like a more cost effective option

I needed two cards anyway, so I figured it was worth the $80 for the NVLink to play with SLI every so often. I've been using two cards since Voodoo and Riva Tuner, and wanted in on the last hardware bridge SLI as well (I guess in the future it will be implicitly handled by the developers like multi-CPU/thread support, which means it will be a crapshoot on who implements it, but that future iterations likely won't need a bridge of any kind).

I'm really only interested in RDR2 at the present on the list of supported Vulcan and DX12 titles. I would love to force games like Destiny 2 and Overwatch.

It isn't SLI natively, so maybe I will have more luck there, albeit it doesn't need the boost as badly as D2...

I believe you will still need that bridge for dx12 mgpu, the way it's implemented in most games still requires SLi to be enabled in drivers.. currently, AotS is the only game that can do it in a generalized way with heterogeneous hardware (limited research)

It sounds like they just aren't implementing backwards support for DX11 title profiles on the 3090, so we are stuck with the titles on the list you presented before (DX12 and Vulkan) or any new ones developed with mGPU for DX12 or Vulcan, What a shame. There are definitely titles that would benefit from it to run at 4k maxed out. Not sure why they couldn't just go the extra yard on this for loyal SLI users who have been using the technology since its inception.

Well, at the least now I know why I can't force those titles...

Not any HEDT system either, it must have slots 80mm apart on the motherboard as that is the only size NVLink bridge available.

I have all the bits but can not find the time to assemble it all.
I'm talking about the requirement of quad channel and X16/X16. Case and point with the older 2080 Ti series here, 3970X vs 9900K in SOTTR at 4K. Ignore Linus, he has no idea how to setup a system or use profile inspector.

If you hadn't noticed this already, game fps relies on memory bandwidth & latency, the same goes for SLI configurations.

SOTTR is quite an easy game to SLI and runs with very good scaling, over 90%.

Sadly the same can not be said of other titles.

There is a bench thread for SOTTR but it uses higher settings than the ones your images are showing.

Had ordered an X570 Godlike and HX1200 plus NVlink for Monday delivery but cancelled as I remembered I needed to check the fingers matched up first.

Cards arrived today so I measured the positioning of the fingers on the two cards and they're both around 1.7-1.8mm from the rear mount so I think we should be good to go now.

However, it seems I now can't find a 30' series NVlink anywhere at this time. Bummer!

NVIDIA only sells 4 slot spacing NVlink for the 3090's. I know this because I had to sell my new motherboard for a X570 Godlike to make it all work. There is no 3,2 slot NVlink for the 3090 officially, but the A6000 NVIDIA card has 2 and 3 slot spacing NVlink but they are blower cards and I wouldn't recommend using 3090's that are not blower cards that way on 2 or 3 slot Nvlink as they will get very hot. The A6000 NVlink is meant to work.. but no one has confirmed that and anyways you can't buy them anywhere yet. Just a rumor they will work so far so don't risk it.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/design-visualization/quadro-desktop-gpus/

Right at the bottom the NVlink on the left the first picture with 2 black ones, they are the rumored ones to work on 3090's too. BUT they are for the Quadros RTX A6000 range, so will be priced way more than a 3090 NVlink ..

There are only 2 motherboards for X570 that can do 4 slot spacing one is a cheap and nasty budget Asrock board and the Godlike X570.

These are your only options for X570 4 slot spacing but the catch is the AsRock board is crossfire compatible only, every other board is 3 slot spacing and Nvidia will not be making a 3 slot spacing NVlink for 3090 sli..

  1. AsRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 (and WiFi ax) (not compatible with SLI or NVlink, only AMD crossfire)

  2. MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE (SLI/NVlink NVIDIA compatible)

So now you see only one board actually exists for X570 that allows SLI/NVlink NVIDIA compatible.

Only other options are x299 Intel and the AMD TR4 boards that allow 4 slot spacing.

So now I'm waiting for my Godlike x570 to be delivered ... Become a silly headache with x570 boards that work and only one at £660 to £700 price at the moment and now they are flying out of stock everywhere if you are not quick because people with 3090 sli ideas have finally realised that's only board that will work for X570 and AMD Ryzen CPUs.

I just wish Nvidia would leverage their advantage and make SLI available for all 30 series cards. I'd buy a 3080 if it offered any better performance in RDR2 at 4K than my 1080ti SLI but the difference in fps from 1080ti SLI isn't worth the trouble. If I was playing other unsupported games I might be tempted but I want to buy an upgrade and Mr leather jacket seems to have decided he can't be ar$ed to support the ONLY way to get the best out of today's and yesterday's games. It's not like either the 3080 or 3090 can do 60fps 4K all ultra in previously released games but Mr Greedy won't allow us to do that with SLI. I've previously bought 2 of every top (excluding Titans) card to run SLI/crossfire but the miserable turds won't let us do this any more.

3090 in SLI with all settings maxed out can run rdr2 at around 60 fps. That's with the newer added settings all maxed as well.

Yeah, I jumped on the Godlike x570 fairly early. I needed more than one card anyway so the SLI is the cherry on top.

Hi Queuecumber,

I stumbled across your post about RDR2 and SLI and I can’t thank you enough!! I’ve been trying to get this to work since the end of October and all I could get was the black screen you described when running the benchmark or loading my game. I submitted a ticket to Rockstar support and they were absolutely worthless.

Do you have any other SLI hints/tips you’d like to share. I haven’t purchased Flight Sim 2020 yet but I’d love to get SLI working on this (assume you can’t since it’s DX12 only)?

Thanks again!!

NP. I figured if I was having the issue someone else probably would as well at some point.

Sadly, I have not tried Flight Simulator recently. I have been waiting on a HOTAS for months and they keep pushing the date back for delivery....
