Rtx 4070 Asus Dual OC vs Gigabyte Windforce OC

Does anyone know what the main differences are between these two? All I can see is the Asus is the same length so has less but bigger fans I’m guessing, and clocks a minuscule amount higher, but the Gigabyte has the extra fan which might help with cooling? The Gigabyte also cheaper.. wondering why some have 2 and some have 3 fans also..

I’ve only ever had Gigabyte cards so tempted to stick with, but willing to be open minded also.

Thanks!

The Gainward Ghost is ok according to this person's opinion, https://youtu.be/9rd1qrrrWGo?t=54

Usually 3 fans (rather than 2) is to help with extra cooling and noise level. They often run the fans slower and quieter as well as having a bigger heat sink (and charge you more). The 4070 isn't power hungry so 2 fans should be fine in terms of cooling but 3 fan versions might still be quieter. Depending on how long you intend to keep the card, the 5 year warranty of the Zotac might suit you for peace of mind

4070 does not need a huge cooler, it is a low power card with low heat output, the power design is very efficient so there is no need for large coolers and more fans adding to noise level. Generally two larger fans run quieter than 3 smaller fans. Less air turbulence and one less motor.

Comparison of 6700xt with 2 fan v 3 fan models and power consumption isn't that much different to the 4070.

The reference model had 2 fans, was much hotter and the 2 fans ran much faster than the 3 fan Powercolor Hellhound, https://youtu.be/PJboWJJFk9I?t=1069

In fairness a 6700 XT can pull upto 100W more, particular when overclocked, so the cooler is more important.

I got the GB windforce 4070 (from OCUK) as its one of two 8pin 4070s that allow extra PL, just so you know it doesn't actually work and 200w is still the performance cap limit even at 216w limit.

Had I known the PL increase didn't work I would definitely go for two big fans over 3 tiny things, sure the triple fan is great on huge GPUs but this thing is tiny and though not loud is not a nice sound, I compared to the Ventus and the GB definitely has a more aggressive fan curve that gets to 1800rpm at about 60c, explains the great temps in reviews.

I always liked the GB cards but first impressions felt very naff (naff compared to FE), the hint sink fins had many dents in it and had glue all over the shroud and the fans are cheap as, very flimsy and tiny.

EDIT: have changed fan profile at firmware level and it works well at around 15/1600rpm much better and not much impact on temps.

Since you cant overclock past 200w get the asus dual surely will sound nicer?(you might be able to +8% PL apparently, if it actually works)

Clocks don't matter at all since all will OC at least 165+ and hit power limit before clock wall anyway so it doesn't matter.

For anyone interested OC +210 stable will bounce off 3000mhz mostly around 2880-2940mhz hitting pwr limit/Vrel constantly, stock is around 2760-2790mhz hitting pwr limit also.

Settled for UV 2835@1v +1000 mem and UV [email protected] +1000 mem, using 1.035v and above at 2925+ will bounce off pwr limit and I prefer the consistancy of the clocks not dropping when hitting pwr limit.

Thank you guys seems the Asus is the more sensible option here then. Although I’m now actually wondering if I should pay the extra and go for the 7000 XT at £749… problem is I have a 34” Alienware 1440p display which has gsync, I’ve always had Nvidia so not sure how that would weigh in… 20gb memory on the card sounds mad though… or would I be better off aiming for the 4070 still..?

Which model exactly? I know the 3420DW does allow AMD cards to utilise the module (was one of the first iirc). This is from the Rtings review;

Bah mine is the AW3418DW which I think was purely gsync only. It’s a stunning screen regardless, I wonder how much any of this would matter if the gpu can push out over the 100fps most of the time on these cards anyway?

For me Gsync is too valuable to lose on a screen like that, just grab the cheapest 4070 you can and enjoy for a few years and sorted :)

I picked up the MSI RTX4070 VENTUS x3 and its great, runs cool and quiet has no bling though so if you want all the fancy rgb then its not for you...but I am very pleased with it, even though I actually ordered the zotac twin model but some how got this one lol. Upgraded from a 3070 and its so much better in my opinion.

Thanks Jedi, yeah I think even if I'm getting 70 or 80 fps, ideally I'd want 120 to match the 120hz refresh rate, but the gsync makes it so smooth it's just wonderful. I think I'm better off sticking with the 4070 then. Although, I know it's a tad more, I'm tempted by the £749 price on the AMD RX 7900XT...

This doesn't help you but I got the XT earlier to play with and it's impressive, the build quality is lovely and absolutely second to none!! (and I've had the 4090FE which is also top-tier).

But stick to Gsync and go 4070Ti if you can stretch, it's a good 25-30% faster than the 4070 and will help those taxing games in the future (but the 4070 is def the best value pick of the moment).

I'm thinking now to go 4070ti as it will be an upgrade on the rtx 3080 and 4070 without the mental prices of the 4090... I'll be gaming at 3440x1440p and hoping to upgrade to the oled version of my screen in near future which has 165hz refresh. This gpu will average that fps and higher so I think at the moment at least a 4080/4090 is just overkill unless I went 4k res. However, which one to get, there's oc versions, tuf versions lol, it's mad

Hmm. I think I agree but the ti will yield another 70fps in some games but of course is nearly £300 more.. urrrgh! Maybe I’ll just get a 4070 after all and just wait a bit before upgrading
