Hi all,
I have a Zotac Solid OC 16GB on order but I am seeing bad reviews about 50 series cards having hotspots wrecking the power delivery components over time. So this has led me to consider the AMD RX 9070 XT. Anyone got any views on this? I want a card that can maintain 144 fps across all games.

Specs
CPU 9800X3D
RAM 6000Mhz DDR5
PSU Corsair 1000w
MB x870 Auros Elite WIFI7

Monitor 144Mhz Gigabyte QHD 3440 x 1440p

There are no reviews saying that...
Igors lab released some findings the other day saying it was possible on some models depending on the cooling solution and it can be prevented as long as there is a proper thermal pad where the hotspot is. But he also said it's not something to stress over.

The 5080 is the better card but there is a lot of hype over the 9070XT at the moment so if you'd rather get that one go ahead. You'll get slightly worse raster performance and quite a bit worse RT performance but probably save some money.
Both are good cards as long as they're MSRP, I wouldn't pay over MSRP for either of them though

the 5080 is the better card if you can spend the extra. Feature set, DLSS, transformer model, mfg upto x4 has worked well for me with a high refresh OLED. My Zotac amp runs cool no issues. RT performance is very good whereas the 9070xt you will make big sacrifices.

Thanks yes the Nvidia has better features

I'm in the same boat as you Steve, I've got a 9070xt nitro sat ready to go back to the rainforest, but am looking to order the Solid OC too (not sure why it's £20 more expensive than the white version???).

I've got an OG G-Sync monitor that goes down to 30Hz and a 3080FE currently, (1440p monitor), so to make the break AMD i need a monitor (got one of those redy to go back to Rainforest too) and the 9070xt.

If i stick with Nvidia and get a 5080OC it's a bit more than the 9070xt and monitor.

I'm currently playing Ghost of Tsushima - which has no FSR4 on the 9070xt and corruption on the 5080OC!!

Then it will be Last of Us 1, then maybe LoU 2, Avatar, Starfield maybe (if they patch in some more stuff) and Cyberpunk...

Avatar, Starfield and Cyberpunk don't have FSR4, Cyberpunk will be much better on the 5080OC 'cos raytracing - i'm leaning towards the 5080OC but the game i most want to play isn't working??

I'm on a 5800x3d with ram at 3733...

What would the rest of you fellas/ladies do?

You're not really comparing apples with apples there, the 5070 Ti is the competing card with the 9070 XT, whereas the 5080 is (depending on the model) much more expensive.

If you're getting an upgrade on the monitor with the 9070 XT then that sounds like a better deal, but if you're not I'd be more inclined to send the lot back.

Use Optiscaler for FSR4 in Tshushima etc.

I'm running Ray tracing on ultra at 1440pUW with FSR4 via optiscaler in Cyberpunk and it's playing around 80fps with FSR4 balanced which looks great to me.

The monitor is a bit of a bummer if it doesn't support Freesync as it'll wipe out most of the savings from going with a 9070XT over the 5080.

I've just gone from a 3080fe to the 9070XT as I just fancied trying AMD out this time around, and there were/are still a lot of issues plaguing the RTX 50 series, which has put me off.

The monitor upgrade comes from TN (but a decent one) 30-144Hz G-Sync to 48-180Hz Fast IPS G-Sync and Freesync. Not a massive upgrade by any means. I'd get the 5080 because it's as far as prepared to go in price - there is no better AMD card for me to choose. I wanted to give AMD a go, but for the games i'm playing it's not really working out for me.

the other thing is i've held off playing Cyberpunk so i'd be able to play with as many bells and whistles as i could...

And one more thing is £1K and 16GB vram - is that just plain silly?

Baked in obsolescence, basically, it'll likely be the same story as the 3070 (plenty of grunt left still, but starved of VRAM).
Yep on a 3080FE. 16 still seems OKish though...not great but a lot better than 10! The other thing I should mention is I can still get a bit of money for my 3080 now. I'm not sure how long thats going to be the case. Sorry for the thread hi-jack btw Steve

It’s a complete none issue. Have to keep repeating it so many times everyone has convinced each other 16gb is not enough. There are 2 games I know of Avatar and Indiana Jones at 4K and Ultra native will run out of VRAM. This would be easily solved anyway by using DLSS and moving to some high settings.

I have both a 9070xt & a 5080. Get the 5080.
It performs loads better. DLSS 4 vs FSR 4 is better.
the 9070XT has random stuttering in certain games thats ******* annoying and you will notice it.

MRSP is the king in making a decision!

5080 is a joke card. Take out the FPS counter, and 99% people would be able to see the difference between 5070TI and 5080......
Should really go 5070Ti or 9070XT

Don't give out your hard earned cash easily mate.

It looks like MRSP for 9070XT cards is going up and 5080 are going down.
1 month ago that was reversed.

Realist basic MSRP for 9070XT £620.
Basic 5080 MSRP should be "£950"

That's £300+ difference. Is 5080 WORTH 300 quid more. Hell NO.

Go with 9070XT if you can find a good REF MSRP model or MSRP 5070ti

If your monitor has G-sync it can do Freesynch too natively with 9070XT, so you shouldn't have to change monitor.
