Morning all. Im very tempted by the new Ruark MR1 Mk2 now after owning the MR1's for over 3 years now which we use on a daily basis on a evening for music and films and been impressed by them im thinking on upgrading to the newer model things seemed to have improved with crossover exc they do seem to get the thumbs up from the previous MR1's. But not sure on how much of an upgrade it would be worth to the one's i own now after to speaking to couple of people they do say they have improved on sound

Only way to find out is to have a listen to them yourself, preferably in your own room if you can. Speaker technology hasn't moved on a huge amount over the last decade or two so there may not be much of a difference, unless they are voiced slightly differently.

I agree think ill go have a listen they do look nice but not sure i like the fabric on the speaker i do like mine without grills. Ill pop into Fanthorpes and have a look :)

if you order them online and get them sent to you you "should" be covered by the distance selling act , but you will be liable for the return postage

Yes Feature wise im not so bothered about there just roughly same as the old MR1's all this with the battery Pack exc you can do with the older MR1 .Apart from the optical i use mine with a DAC so the optical input is nothing that really matters to me im more intrested in the sound of the improved crossover they talking about

Hi, I keep.gpimg back to these for my living room. They would be connected to my TV via optical and I would either connect my Echo Dot to it via BT or aux. Or I could connect my AudioCast.

My main question is after having the original for three years how did you find it when connected to your TV?

I still have the originals to i don't have mine connected to TV. I have them connected to a USB DAC. I use my TV as a PC monitor i find them great for like Movies exc. If you get a demo of the new 1's Kev let me know how they sound please id be intrested to see if there a improvement on sound like they say they are. I don't think id use them for my main TV in living room due to them not been the loudest if you get a Sub with them then that would be better. We have them in our bedroom. They make great speakers for the bedroom due to there size

Sorry my post probably didn't come across as it should. I was looking at buying the new ones and had a demo of them via BT only and sounded great however there wasn't an option to connect to a TV to see how they sound.

I don't have the originals

They sound brilliant for movies and we use them without a Sub. But im considering getting a REL T ZERO sub for ours which is small and would pair with the Ruarks great. If you are planning on using them for TV movies exc in your living room then you won't be dissapointed but if your using for Music also then i would get a SUB for Movies an Music these are Active so you cannot get loud without the SUB incase you blow them lol. This all depends on the size of the room your putting them in of course

Using optical connection technically should be better than Bluetooth. Reason being is that Bluetooth uses compression due to limited bandwidth. Stereo via optical is uncompressed. Newer versions of Bluetooth and AptX do improve on this to the point that some people may not notice any difference.

If you found they sound great via Bluetooth, using optical from TV will be just as good, if not better.

Thanks for the reply, going to pop into John Lewis on Monday with an optical cable and have a demo. It's either these or a Denon DM41 plus a pair of Dali Zensors 1s.

So I have been into John Lewis twice and both times they didn't have any to play with. I did play with the R2 MK3 which sounded stunning though!

When I was leaving John Lewis yesterday I did see the previous version in white reduced to £240. They were still boxed but a customer return, now I am now considering these due to being £90 cheaper then the newly released one. They did have a set of the walnut ones as well at £200 however they had quite a few marks on them. Popping back in again tomorrow, if they are still there it must be fate lol.

I went into John Lewis today and they still don't have the newer version. They still had the white ones for £240 however not convinced on color. I have since seen on Ruarks website that they have a graded section and they have the Walnut version for £240 as well.

So I now have the option to save £90 and buy these or go for the newer version.

White speakers are a terrible choice if you plan to have them in a movie room- white speakers are very distracting when watching the TV.

Remember last year when one my local retailer were selling there Ruark MR1 Mk1 off for £125... I thought I give it a day to think about it because they where the white ones and I wanted black ones and ended missing them..:(

The walnut is lovely. It all depends really if your using DAC. If your using a DAC with Optical then id go with the originals. If not using a DAC and just using them for TV then go for the newer model. If you like to remove the grill then go with the Original MR1 if you want the newer model which you cannot remove and like the look of more then go newer model. It all depends and you can stick Chromecast Audio in the new MR1's Optical if that intrests you
