Ruark MR1 Mk2

You won't be dissapointed with either mate there really nicely made top quality and sound nice. To really get the best out of them though should think of using them with a DAC

I have never considered or looked into a DAC before. Ideally I wanted simplicity, I suppose I could always add later if needed. I was going to connect to my TV via optical and just sit back and smile .

Thats fine then the newer model is the way forward. If its for tv in a living room then id use them with a sub for sure with them not been really big speakers

I have just found the previous model online and new for £150 in a clearance! Ordering now.

Just about to order a cable, do you use aux to aux or aux to phono?

Hi,

I'm reviving this thread because I'm interested in acquiring the mr1. I can get the originals for around 200 € here in France, or get the new ones for a whooping 430€. Was wondering if they were that good of an upgrade to warrant such a striking price difference ?

Any feedback welcomed :)

Ive owned the original and now own the New version i did like the look of the older model. Due to remove the Grills. Which you cannot on the new model. But after connecting the new versions up the back of the new model seemed to be more solid for the connections they seemed to fig snug. You can also use the Right speaker on its own in Mono mode connected with the Battery Ruark Sell. Plus the new version have optical out with the older version not. I guess it depends how you will be using the speakers. The added bonus with the new version is if you don't use the optical you can always use Chromecast audio

Is see. I suppose the optical in is nice, but as I plan to use them either as computer speakers or later for my tv, the use case is quite limited. And for 200 € I can invest in a good DAC with optical in.

I was more wondering if they had a significant improvement sound quality wise. The few reviews on them (what Hi fi mainly) seem to indicate they do, but I don't know how much faith i can put in them. Do you find them noticeably improved or are they very similar to the old ones ?

Last question, do the input auto-switch when active on the new one, or do they still require to be switched manually (dial or remote) ?

They sound very Familar. But i think the new version seem to have more punch in the bottom end. The new version seem to be better made. With that the back of the right speaker (which is amped) seems to be a lot better when connected up they seem to fit more snug and solid. ive noticed a upgrade. But if your using them with a DAC then you could say older version would do just fine. You wont be disapointed with either TBH
