THe top radiator hose on my Rover 75 1.8T has a small pin-***** hole in it causing a fine jet of water to hit the top of engine cover when the system is up to operating temperature. I can order a new top radiator hose but it is £54!!!
So I am thinking a temporary tape repair maybe in order. Where is the best place to get my hands on Silcone rubber tape , the type that is self-adhering and fusing on a Saturday morning in Hull.

Superglue should do the trick, tbh. Just try to make sure you don't squirt too much in as it's probably not a good thing to have floating around inside, even if it's not bad.

Unless anyone knows any reason why this would not be effective and safe?

Be careful whatever you do, the 1.8 K series engine is prone to overheating / headgasket issues and a small leak could rapidly get bigger, with little or no warning.

The cooling system is of a low capacity, so you only need to lose a bit of water before you potentially end up with a £500+ bill.

Because super glue is not effective in hot/wet environments.

Actually, it is. It reacts with water to dry itself (thus dries really quickly on fingers but not what you're actually trying to glue!) so shouldn't leak into the inside in any meaningful way, and IIRC melts at ~173ºC or something like that, which is more than hot enough for a car radiator.
